I noticed a building at 33 (aka Riverside Dr.) and Grandview Ave. that says it will be a Mexican restaurant named Rancho Alegre. Anybody know about this? Is it a chain?
There could be several already across Columbus for all I know. Searching got me only this and some other inconclusive results.

It's been open for a month or so now and I went there yesterday. It is the third restaurant opened by the owners, but is not part of a chain, according to the Dispatch. I sat at the bar (pretty small, only room for 6), and was given salsa and chips immediately. I ordered the #2 entree, which was a taco, enchilada and chalupa, if I recall correctly. My order came out within 10-15 minutes, and my cup of Coke was never empty. It was even refilled when it was 75% full! The waiter to customer ratio was 1:5 (there were 15-20 customers there around 6pm), so service was fast, and it was also polite. I'm not very picky about food, so I'll like pretty much anything as long as it's not really subpar. That said, I was very pleased with my entree, and I will definitely return in the future.

I went about a week ago. I liked it a lot. It's very similar to El Vaquero, but better in a few ways. It's not dimly lit like the El Vaquero up the road. It's very clean, the service is great - and fast! The food is about a half a step better, too. The menu is pretty traditional Mexican/American amalgam, but there are a few unique dishes. The pork burrito I had was amazing. It was huge, but I managed to clean my plate.

I went there for lunch last week with coworkers. They were pretty busy at the lunch rush, which is not surprising. Food was pretty good. I just got one of the lunch combos; would like to go back at dinner time and try an entree.

I came across your discussion and just thought that I would let you folks know that Rancho Alegre is featured on 360columbus.com.
Rancho Alegre does not have their website live yet, but we have their menu posted as well as some other great stuff. I hope it helps you out!

Tried it out last night for Mexican Monday. It was clean and bright. Too bright if you ask me but you know what they say about opinions. Anywho... ordered a pitcher of margs on the rocks. Pretty good. The chips and salsa came right away. The chips were warm and the salsa had a bite to it... Mr. Trixie had a combo dish with a taco, enchilada, rice and something else with cheese and beef. He enjoyed his and thinks the beef is tastier than El Vaquero. I ordered the Quatro Milapas (I think that's the name). It was two enchiladas with mole sauce and a beef burrito and a pork burrito. It was HUGE. I ate half of it... pretty yummy. The guac was yummy and fresh.
Thumbs up. We'll go back, which is more than I can say for Cuco's.

BUMP.
Took a long time for Anne & I to make our way over here, but after we made that first visit about six months ago, the floodgate way opened.
The service is fast, menu expansive, and prices reasonable. Pretty much what you'd expect from similar other Mexican restaurants (if you're a fan of El Vaquero, you'll feel at home here).
We love the fact that it's just right outside of Downtown as well. This type of Mexican cuisine is surprisingly absent from Downtown, although there's a variety of other types of Central & Southern American cuisine with Plantain Cafe, Si Senor, El Arepazo, Casa Sazon, etc.
So yeah... We love Rancho Alegre! :D

I made the mistake one time of ordering a half-off Margarita during happy hour without specifying a size... so they brought me the biggest one. It was something in the neighborhood of 32-48oz... ridiculously huge glass. And strong too.
I'd suggest a CU happy hour there, but I fear it could be dangerous. ;)

LOL! The exact same thing happend to Tom and me one week ago Friday eve. We have NEVER in our lives seen such a huge Margarita. Tom ordered it. Two of us could barely finish it. We had a big laugh as it arrived at our table and a few more everytime we took a drink. It seemed to replenish itself as we tried to drink all of it. RA is a great place for so many reasons. We give it a thumbs up for a CU happy hour FOR SURE! Cheers to all!

Rancho was really good. Very much in the same vein of El Vaquero or Cazuela's. I ordered a "medium" lime margarita on the rocks which was the same side as a large margarita at El Vaquero or anywhere else, so I don't even want to think about what the huge margarita looked like. I had a combo plate with a chicken enchilada, some beef dish and a tostaguac. Very tasty stuff and reasonable prices.
