Hi all, so for health insurance reasons I am looking to get hitched quickly before we have our official wedding later in the year.
I need help.
If we go to the courthouse and get our marriage license that doesn't mean we are legally married does it?
Anyone know where we can get the thing signed? Preferably a fast non-denominational person who can do it.

Marriage license is required to have a legally binding marriage. It is a permit to get married. I can marry people in Illinois and California, I'll check what the requirements are in Ohio.
I've got the forms in my attic.
But I'm pretty sure you can go to any church and ask the minister to marry you on the spot. OK, not the catholics, but that is another story.
Later Edit: Need to register with the state. Takes about two weeks to a month.

marriage license at 23rd floor of 373 south high
then go over to the muni court building and inquire about a justice of the peace marriage, I forget what floor that is on but I have been a witness at a few, it doesn't take but a few minutes
don't recall what he lead time is, I think it gets scheduled ahead of time but it isn't long of a wait
once married you take your signed marriage license back over to the 23rd floor and file it and you are officially married

Just be sure to get the marriage license first. You can also fill out part of the form online for increased speediness. Justice of the Peace'll marry you, if you want, but you have to make an appointment a few days beforehand (my friends discovered this the hard way).

And for what it's worth, you should make sure the celebrant at your "official" wedding knows that the paperwork has already been handled. It's just a small part of the process (signature, witness, etc.) but I could imagine a minister being a little puzzled if you fail to bring the required civil documents.

A quick look shows over 100,000 registered. That's about 1 in 100.
Statistically you should be able to enter any room (or a bus) with 25 or more people and have a better than half chance of finding someone who can marry you.

Hi, When I wanted a "quick" and "easy" marriage last year this is what happened. We got our marriage licence, which was super easy. I called the Justice of the Piece's office and was told they were booked until the end of the month. (this was in December of '08, I don't know what February schedule is usually like)
Anyway, I called around to the chapel type places in Columbus, there's one on High Street in German Village, one by the airport, and one in Grove City. Since we're Jewish I asked that no religion be mentioned. The guy in Grove City had a problem with that.
We ended up going to the one on High Street. I made the appointment the week before. We went in at 4:00 and were done by 4:30. The guy there handles all the paperwork. I think it ended up costing about $75. It all depends on how many people you take, if you want pictures, etc. I would give it a good recommendation.

We went to Weddings are Us, the lady was very nice and had a super cute toy poddle who attend the wedding as well.
