Anybody coming to gallery hop tonight? Us and a lot of other people down here are having huge summer sales right now, so it should be a nice crowd. Curious if the Fair/Irish-fest will have any effect on us tonight or not. It seems like they should not, but I am still amazed at the effect anything going on anywhere else in the city seems to have on our neighborhood.

I will not be there, because I'm volunteering at the Irish Festival. But my wife and some girlfriends will be there.
I think you'll be fine tonight. Columbus has a lot of people to support multiple events. But, if attendance is down, my guess is that it would be because of the Irish Festival rather than the Ohio State Fair.

Well I live right on High Street in the Short North, so I always step out for awhile. Plus this time, must see my friend's showing at Rivet and see how Jeni's Ice Cream is doing on their second humid night. Also want to see Clint Reno's show at the Mahan Gallery.

I'll be there.
Is there anything at all really Irish about the city of Dublin, Ohio? Just askin'...

I heard that Irish Fest pulled in like 92,000 people!!!???? That is like a Woody Hayes era football game.

Mike, it's all about city branding and marketing. And Dublin does a fine job in marketing its Irish brand. Plus, it's a great city to live in.

I just wondered if it was settled by a large constituency of Irish folk back in the day.

We'll be wandering around. Wish I had that streetcar to get me there though! ;)
Why drive all the way to Dublin to pay $10 to get into a fair...then have to buy food and drinks? :?

Is it $10 to get into the Irish Dublin festival? Really? That is pretty steep.
The Sunday hours are: 11 a.m. - 9 p.m. - Sunday, August 5 (FREE admission until 11 a.m.)
That must be a joke- no free admissions, since they open at 11.
I'm not driving to any suburb for anything, let alone paying $10 once I get there.
I suggest they move the Dublin Irish festival downtown- to the Downtown Irish festival. And there should be a parade. And it should be free.
So, if 90,000 people go at $10 a head... that's like 7 billion dollars. No wonder the estates in Dublin are so big.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Seriously, I just looked...it's TEN DOLLARS to go to the Dublin Festival. Just out of curiosity, I thought I'd check to see what you get with the ticket price...apparently it's pretty simple. You get to go to the Dublin Festival.
Wow.

I'm riding my bike to gallery hop. No parking mess. Plus, no drinking and driving....
(don't lecture me on biking and driving- I can have a few drinks and bike home and not endanger anyone but myself.)
There is something very American about paying $10 to go to an Irish festival.
Yeah- for a very few dollars more you can get a respectable bottle of Irish Whiskey suitable for sipping warm out of a dirty tumbler- I know because I've done this (with Ben Devoe, of course). If that ain't Irish, I'll kiss your ass.

LOL...yeah, I noticed that DeVoe was suddenly a whiskey drinker at the Junctionview Event...wtf!
Last time I drank insane amounts with Ben, he decided to order a dozen purple nurples or some shit, drink them himself, and then puke on a stranger's car in front of the bar window.
Of course, that was a long time ago in a galaxy far away, and Ben is far more relaxed today. I'm not, but he is, and I apologize to the guy who's car I just puked on.

why all this hating on the irish festival? it's a great event that brings in performers from all over the states and all over ireland. it's very successfully organized and the price is not that steep. you see a ton of performers that you would normally pay more than 10 dollars to see anyways. and it keeps heritage celebrations going.
oh well. whatever.

just got home from the gallery hop and had an awesome time.

I'm not hating on the Irish festival. I invite you to reread my posts- no hate, just questions and observations.
However... I call it as I see it. I don't agree with an entrance fee- that's all. I have ALOT of money to spend. I would prefer to do that at my discretion on drinks and art and entertainment... not on some outrageous entrance fee at a festival in the suburbs. Call me crazy.
Let me in free and I'll spread my money around. Maybe that's just me...

I just got back from my first Gallery Hop and we had a great time! Next time I'll wear more sensible shoes, though... Thanks to everyone who replied to my earlier plea for help and suggestions!
I'm only disappointed that I didn't get to the gallery with the games--we couldn't find it! I consider myself a grocery shopping expert, so I was thinking I'd be a ringer at that game! Next time, I guess.
And Jeni's Cucumber Sorbet is fantastic! I highly recommend it!
