My friends and I are planning a "Girl's Night Out" for next Friday and want to go out for dinner and then drinks. We have a group of 6 and would prefer the Short North. Does anyone have suggestions for food? We want something good with an upbeat atmosphere, but not uberexpensive. Thanks a lot.

Basi Italia, Burgundy Room, and Lemongrass come to mind first.
Party of 6 can really eat a nice variety with Burgundy Room between the tapas plates and food flights and a little sharing.

The new Bar Louie there on Park Street came to mind first, plus when there on Park Street you've got plenty of drinking options in the immediate vicinity.

There are several places you could try including Betty's, Short North Tavern, Surly Girl, and Bodega that have great food and good drink menus. If you aren't partial to mexican try Rojo. It has a great pomengranate margarita (although the service can be less than desirable). My number one place to always end the night is of course my stand by Char bar. It's across from the convention center on high street but the long islands are well worth the effort. Plus I have never felt like its a meat market as its pretty low key.

I would definitely not recommend Bar Louie or Park Street, as it seems like those are all packed to the gills and tend to be full of the same frat jerks I hung out with in college (now just 5+ years later.)

Surly Girl or Burgandy Room. Tapas and wine list @ Burgandy room is great for the ladies night on the town.
Ixnay the Bar Louie. Place gets too packed and the service sux.

Second that. When Short North bar hopping, I ussually end at Mac's for their scottish eggs. Good when you know the next morning will bring a hangover deluxe without late night attention.
Check the local listings, sometimes Skully's has some dancing going on.

One of the chefs at the Burgendy Room just opened a new place this year that is a lot of fun. The 8 Bar
The menu is now in place at 8, the hip Short North boit that sandwiches customers between narrow red walls.
Chef Ben Graham has rolled out three menus -- lunch, dinner and "all day" -- that offer upscale comfort food. For lunch, look for such dishes as the quiche duo and baked brie. Everything is priced less than $10.
For dinner, there's an emphasis on heartier fare, including braised lamb shank, New York strip and duck confit over ricotta-stuffed pasta shells. Graham added that portions are reasonable but not obnoxious. Prices are $12 to $18.
The "all day" menu has a litany of smaller plates, among which are beef carpaccio, house-breaded swordfish "sticks" with a jerk tartar sauce and mac 'n' cheese with mushrooms and truffle oil. Those plates cost $4 to $11.
It's not Graham's first time in a Short North kitchen. He formerly worked at the Burgundy Room, a wine and small-plates' bar a few blocks to the south, and was the founding chef of the Burgundy Room's Dublin location.
The 30-seat restaurant, which takes the place of Elements Grill, is located at 733 N. High St. It's open for lunch and dinner hours seven days a week. For more information, call 614-294-2413.
Late-Night/Casual Dining
8 Bar (N. High st. at Buttles in the Short North)- another newcomer to the Short North restaurant scene, 8 bar boasts Chef Ben Graham cooking up his comfort food favorites. Whimsical creations include swordfish fish sticks with tater tots and an outstanding mac 'n cheese with truffled mushrooms and breadcrumbs. Great selection of beers on draft, as well.
For drinks I would say surly girl or bodega- if looking more low key st. james
If looking to dance any of the gay bars or skully's

Hey...I've only been there once, but when I saw "six girls" that wanted to have a good time, I'd imagine Bar Louie a good starting point.
As far as packed...Betty's? Uhh...good luck getting a table for six on a Friday.

Yeah, actually seating for 6 on a Friday at Basi wouldn't be a picnic either.

Basi has the patio which should be open- may need reservations, might be more pricey than some- but well worth it

unless the weather is nice and the patio is open. the patio triples Basi's space, and allows for a lot more mid/large groups.
h/e w/ six you can write off a table at Betty's, Press Grille and some others. Rossi might work if you can get in a reservation. They take them for 4 or more, and have about 2 tables that can seat 6.

Lemongrass

My bed will fit all of you. It is a four minute walk from High St. I'll even provide one complementary drink and cigarette.

Surly girl and skully's or park street if you want to shake your asses.
Posted 4 years ago # -
Food at Surly Girl or Zen Sushi or Kooma or Tyfoon would be fun.
Then you can just hop around to bars if you want.
