What kind of events do you enjoy?
House? Trance? Electro? Rock? Hip-Hop? V.I.P.? Hipster? Posh? Grimey?
Personally I prefer a mixed house, electro and hip-hop, hipster scene, although I've been producing minimal techno events and there are a lot of V.I.P. style trance events I've been attending lately. Let's hear what kind of nightlife you enjoy!

I'd have to say electronic/techno/nu-jazz. However, I'm a fan of the play lists from Bristol Bar and Lotus, Thievery Corporation, Telepopmusik, Koop, Hird, etc.

I have to say, the best vibe music wise and crowd wise I've seen in a long time was the night I had a private party at Lotus that you hooked up Scott, although I don't know the classification of music. I think it was a Quality night maybe? I know that even I really enjoyed the music though, and I'm not normally a fan of the genre...and the crowd was fantastic.

Yeah, definitely. Not NEARLY as hardcore as I used to... I still keep up with the soulful stuff, and artists I like. If there were still d&b events regularly I'd probably enjoy playing them, especially after I buy Serato this month which makes keeping my tunes organized and on hand a lot easier.

Any mixture of house, electro, techno, progressive (though after years and years of going out, i still dont know exactly what progressive refers to.) Any of these sounds usually does the trick for me at most venues. Dare I say, however, that at any large venue with a ton of people, I am still quite the trancecracker. I know the "T" word gets trashed a lot lately around edm circles, but I cant help it. The pure "energy" produced at a large trance event is unmatched, compared to what I would call a great "vibe" from the other genres listed above.... In any case, any of these sounds, coupled with a good crowd of any size, can produce a night to remember.
Edit: Forgot to mention DnB... Never had a bad time at one of those events either.

Honestly, I think the "RAVE" sound is back. Multi-genre DJs playing electronica is big in '07. The rock aspect of the new-rave has added a needed twist. Expect loads of acid-house, techno, electro, and funk. Ed Banger records is a good example of what's going on. I think people are done with the posh lounges and wanna get sweaty again.

Call it a rave if you want but nothing going on in this town is a "rave, " nor will it ever be again. Everyone that's tried for the last few years has been shut down for one reason or another even when they were told repeatedly by the city that all of their permits were in place inspections completed and venues were locked down. They will alwasy find a way to shut em down...even if they have to make something up (ie: A runaway child was suspected by the police to be inside of a party a couple years ago...yea right!!). We may be able to produce some events that reproduce a portion of the music or overall vibe but rest assured....raves are dead.
I'm not a negative person...I'm a realist. Sometime what's real is also negative.

Yeah, I think what Jenny meant was "rave" in the sense of what Scott is talking about.
I love the aspect of throwing together different genres of music and just playing some good freaking tunes for people to dance too.
Who said you can't mix De La Soul into Diplo or The Chemical Brothers? It's always a grab bag.

Yeah, I did say RAVE MUSIC is back, not raves. You really can't rent a venue and have a massive non alcoholic party till sunrise. The city of Columbus doesn't go for it.
