The Lions Club recycles old eyeglases-- I think that is one of their national activities. You may want to check with a local club to see if they have a drop box somewhere.

Also, The Gift Of Sight program by Luxottica/Lenscrafters--

Now that you are heading down the long, desolate path of endless home improvements, I would suggest that you hold on to the old pair to wear while doing work on your house. You'll be surprised by how much paint you end up wearing despite your best efforts after painting a room.

The Lions Club is a great option. My wife is a 4th year at OSU's optometry college, and they get the donations from the Lions Clubs in Ohio. She and classmates went to Nicaragua last fall and gave eye care and gave out donated glasses to lots of people who never would have had them otherwise.
If you're farsighted (most Americans who need glasses are nearsighted), especially, your glasses are needed in poorer countries.

Same thing with Gift Of Sight, they actually partner with the Lion's club in some cities. My mother has gone on several missions out of the country to conduct eye exams and provide the recycled glasses to people who really need them and she tells me they are just beaming with gratitude. Wow, just makes you think for a minute all the things we take for granted. We are spoiled in America so it is awesome when we can share and help other countries...the Universal Conscience.

I saw a glasses recycling bin in the lobby of The Grant Hospital. Next time I am over there, I will take mine in. Yeah, still have them!

Anne, thanks for the follow-up. I really did want to know if/where there was a bin.

Whole Foods also has a bin to the right of the main doors.

Drop off your old eyeglasses or sunglasses at any LensCrafters, Pearle Vision, Sears Optical, Target Optical or Sunglass Hut store, or Lions club to help someone in a developing country experience a brighter future. We will clean, repair and classify your glasses by prescription, then personally deliver them on Give the Gift of Sight international optical missions.
Luxottica rocks.
