Q: Is Light Columbus where I want to go?

OK, I admit it. I've been out of circulation for several years. But now I'm dying to get back (I'm a 40-something woman.) I used to go to Dick Clark's all the time. Felt very safe there. I really, really like to dance - don't mind dancing alone. Nice to meet new people, but I'm definitely not a hook-up type.
I tried South Beach a couple of years back. My impression was that it was a little too much meat market, not enough love of the dance. Tried The Coliseum. Dancing alongside a bunch of 21-year olds made me feel decrepit.
Is Light Columbus where I should go? Do you have any better suggestions? I'd also be interested in towns east of Columbus if y'all know any places there.
I sure would appreciate some recommendations.

Try Lotus. It's a great mix of all ages. You can also try my living room, but that's another conversation!

Yeah, but I bet your living room doesn't have that rank mix of cheap cologne, flop sweat rolling down the middle of the back, and watered down scotch that I so surely miss!
Besides, the cute little pooch in your sign-on photo looks like he'd be easily traumatized by a woman cranking Prince up way too loud and dancing like Elaine from Seinfeld!

Anyway, what's your take on Lotus. That's in the Arena District, right?
When does it start getting busy on Friday and Saturday nights?
DJ or live band?
Cover charge?

Lotus is at Front and Beck?, in the Brewery District. It's a rotation of DJ's, many of which are listed/promoted under Club & DJ Events. Seems like a couple larger events will have a cover of 5 bucks, other nights none at all. Every time I've been there, seen a good group of dancing folks as well as people just enjoying some food and drinks...nice mix. Crowd totally ranges from 20'ish to 50'ish.

I just went back there last night and Core is right on. The crowd was really diverse...atmosphere is great...and the 1/2 price food and drink on Thursdays doesn't hurt either!
Minor correction though...It's just north of Front and Blenkner. ;)

I like Lotus a lot also, but if you are wanting to dance to 80s and top 40s I don't think it's the right place.
Unless they do a night with the type of music? anyone? Scott?

we've moved our night to Lotus this past Tuesday and it was great :D
The breakers and dancers couldn't get enough of the wood floors :lol:
we think we'll do very well there.
There's no cover, no dresscode, it's 18 and up, the sound rocks, the patio is huge, and the kicker is the killer food :wink:
we hope to see everyone out this Tuesday.

Sorry stealthdancer I really don't have any idea. I mostly listen to electronic dance Music ( and I'm only 28 ) so the crowd you are looking for I don't know much about. I know skullys on high street does a ladies 80s night on thursday but most of the crowd is 20 somethings with a few 30 somethings thrown in. Not a meat market at all, so might be a place to give a shot.

i would defintely give light a try.
haven't been there in a year or so, but the last time i was there, i did see some groups of 40 yr olds dancing. i believe it was a saturday night as well.
lotus i can't speak of. i seem to only go there early on, and i see the dinner crowd and what remains of it... which even at boma is a wide variety of ages. still when i think of lotus, i picture a nice lounge spot, not actually a place to dance. like i said, could be wrong, and based on other people's suggestions of it, would trust that it's at least diverse in age with a condensed area for dancing. when they open up the patio, this may change.
boma could be of mention as well, but the times i have been there, it was all youngsters on the floor and the diversity in age left the building before it got too young in there. either that, or they continued to socialize in other rooms. i dunno.
if you asked me this question though, light is definitely where i would send you first.

I will shoot myself if I am over 40 and still clubbing. Light is good if you are over 40, have leather for skin from 30 years of tanning, smoke a pack of marlboros a day, and love home hair bleaching kits.

Atmosphere would be quite a bit different than Mynt. Would mainly be older top 40 stuff...90's-ish. Catering to the mid 20's crowd.

this shit is too funny.
try skully's Thursday nights. Ladies 80's would be a good place cause everyone is dancing, the room is dark and packed full of people. Light might be your spot on Saturday or something. Lotus could be cool to but I wonder what would come of Dkilla's 90' pop night?
