Columbus has a track record of closing tapas bars.
There is a place in the middle of Powell. Haven't been, but I read over the menu. It listed jamon iberica (or similar), tortilla and croquetas which placed it ahead of any other place. No sherry on the list, alas.

you lost me at "authentic"
we have several good places with small plates, but nothing much that would actually replicate a real Spanish tapas bar unless the place in Powell comes through...

It's pretty big too. We like to go on Sunday nights to get a bottle of wine (at cost) and a tapas platter. It's enough for two with small appettites.

Barcelona Tapas Platter - marinated salads, jamon serrano, chickpea hummus, roasted roma tomatoes, spiced olives, fresh mozzarella - 19
I'd rather see some manchego than fresh mozzarella though.

Outstanding patio too.

None that I have seen. Having said that Americans would not go for authentic Spanish tapas anyways. So menu's have to be adjusted to the palates to make a run at sucess.

EVERY actual "event" I've been to at Barcelona I got a great quality for price deal and had a helluva lot of fun.

I saw an advert for a tapas place in Powell at Omega Bakery in the North Market... I guess they're serving their bread items (which are fantastic, btw)... the place is called Maca. They don't have a website, but I found the following descriptions:
We have not been yet, but would love to go... will report back if we do. In the meantime, if anyone else goes, let us all know how it is! Has anyone tried Spain (near 71 and 161)? Don't believe they have tapas, but they serve large plates such as paella and the like...

I've had some really good meals at Spain btw, which was shocking for a restaurant stuck in a motel basically. I'd recommend it for sure.

This deserves bumped up as Maca is the real thing. Has been getting mentions in Alive, Columbus Monthly, etc.
Chef played basketball in Barcelona which is where he learned to love and then to make the food. Has hung out w/ Adria and other elite, world-reknown Spanish chefs.
Last time we went in the fall, we ordered literally everything on the menu. The stuffed piquillo peppers were exquisite. Croqeutas, shrimp, potatoes - all very Barca, very good. Best jamon iberica I've had outside of Spain or NYC. Other items good quality, just paled to the previous.
We went for early lunch today and he was out of numerous things which is a testament to the seriousness of what he does. Croquetas were all gone the night before and the new batch needed to rest for 5-6 hrs before being cooked, for example. Early morning is churros and cocoa, btw.
He does true tapas with everything small plates and sharply, often acidicly seasoned. It is a shame that Ohio gets crapall for sherry because this place screams for it.
Downside is having it so far from me. On the upside, it makes a great reward for biking up the Powell Rd hill from 315.

This restaurant was mentioned yesterday on the Fred Anderle show on WOSU 820-- they were doing the top ten new restaurants in Columbus and then just started talking about good places to eat. The reviewers really seemed to like Maca a lot. I'm definitely going to have to make the trek. (Especially because when I first moved here I was SO excited to go to the Burgundy Room to eat tapas, only to find that it wasn't Spanish at all... big bummer.)

I made it to Maca last night. Great place! The interior is small, cozy and warm and the owner is friendly and great about answering questions about the food and wine. It just happened to be their first anniversary!
I completely agree with your assessment of the food. This was the first time I had jamon iberica and it was amazingly delicous. The same goes for the piquillo peppers and croquetas, and I agree that the rest of the food was good, just not as superb as those dishes. There are still many dishes I would like to try, including the paella.
The wine list is small but well conceived, although I wished for tasting flights because I like to try everything :)

Can I just interject quickly and say that my husband and I went to the Burgundy Room Short North the other night to use up a $25 Dine Originals GC that we had bought before it expired, and we left feeling still VERY hungry (so much so that we moved on to Rigsby's to use up another GC), really disappointed in the food quality and portion sizes.
OK, I *get* that its tapas (small plates). But $12 for one (yes, ONE!) friggin ravioli and a forkful (literally) of duck confit? And it didn't even taste that good? What a rip-off. I reviewed The Burgundy Room Dublin when it was still around, and didn't have a problem with the portion sizes/quality of food then - has the SN location always sucked or is this a recent thing? Or did I just hit the place on an "off" night? We got the duck confit/ravioli, the Cornish Hen (which was tough, and the cabbage was so undercooked that it was literally raw) and the duck spring roll (was OK, nothing to write home about, but I could have sworn that the sauce they served it with was peach, not apple).
I don't know - like I said, we ended up leaving there spending $15 above and beyond the GC value (including tip), and feeling like it was a waste of money, especially knowing that we could have (for roughly $15 more than that, including tip), had a wonderful 3-course meal at the Refectory that would have filled us up. I guess I've just gotten spoiled.
