April hearing on highway-work delays

Although they already have a pretty good inkling about where everyone stands on the topic, state officials have scheduled a five-hour public hearing on ODOT's plan to add years to the timetable of major highway projects across Ohio. It will take place April 17 at ODOT's West Side headquarters. It's penciled in from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

More I-71/670 work to come, but fewer traffic headaches

Crews will begin replacing the Spring and Long street bridges this spring, but disruptions on I-71 will be kept to a minimum. More bridges will come down, more earth will be moved and more concrete and asphalt will be laid this spring in the I-71/670 construction zone. But no more ramps will be closed, Ohio Department of Transportation officials say.

I-70/71 work may start sooner than expected

The Ohio Department of Transportation likely will reorder its list of 34 major projects slated for delays, which could shorten the wait for future phases of I-70/71 reconstruction.

I-71/670 project enters new phase as bridges begin to go up

What’s come down is finally going up. Reconstruction of the I-71/670 interchange reached a milestone last night, according to Ohio Department of Transportation officials. After seven months in heavy demolition mode on the northeastern edge of Downtown, contractors started work tonight on a new I-670 bridge over St. Clair Avenue.

Yep.

Which makes me wonder... if traffic is being shifted from existing wide streets (often one way) onto this previously narrow seldom-used alleys, then does that mean we can narrow the capacity of the old roads that will no longer be serving the same purpose or same amount of traffic?

They're probably projecting a lot of traffic growth by 2040. Then all the streets can be wide to accommodate large car volumes. Build some new parking garages and meters in existing bus lanes, and we're set.

ODOT Sets New Completion Dates For Columbus Crossroads

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- ODOT revises projected completion dates for Columbus Crossroads, saying the final phase will be done seven years earlier than the last estimate.

The new projected completion dates for phases 2, 3 and 4 are 2020, 2023 and 2026.
