i think psychics actually have been helpful in some police investigations.
but if this psychic is a shyster giving the family false hope with the "i'm sure he's still alive" stuff, then that would be awful. :?

If it were you're child, wouldn't you do anything and everything possible?

"When I saw his picture (Monday) night, I immediately tuned into him and felt that he'd been drinking too much over the weekend. He's gone through a recent tragedy. His mother's passed away. I think he was just a little too drunk to really make it home safely," psychic Bill Mitchell said.
ahahaha what a load of crap. A college student disappears in a bar... I'm seeing a bottle... Bud Light? No, it's definitely Coors!
Thank you Captain Obvious!

Yes, i would do everything possible.... and i hate to be the one to break this to you, but having psychic powers IS NOT POSSIBLE.

ultimately, hiring the psychic is bringing extra attention to the crime (this thread, even), and it is possible that the extra attention could help solve it.

There are more serious ways of attracting attention to a case like this. Hiring a psychic is a joke, and makes light of this serious situation. Not a good thing to be doing.

Yeah, that's just a waste of time when something could be done that would actually lead to finding him. If someone wants to go to a psychic just for fun, fine, but when someones life is at stake, no way.

Goddamn it, Walker. What's next...you're going to try and tell us that the Easter Bunny isn't real either? Or Jesus?
If having psychic powers isn't possible, then I don't know what is.

Is the family the people who hired the psychic...or did the police bring him/her in independently.
If it was the family, then as long as THEY believe in it...who the f@#k cares. It's their decision to try to find their son any way they want to. No one would tell you how to handle this situation, and you wouldn't listen even if they did. I don't believe in psychics in the least, but if that is how a person wants to spend their resources, then that is their option and it's not my place to ridicule them for making a decision I find silly.
If it was the police, then thats a little screwy. I'm not sure how much Columbus citizens would want tax dollars paying for a psychic to find a missing person.

The easter bunny is definitely real.
Jesus on the other hand is debatable. But on thing is for sure... if Jesus WAS real, than he was definitely dirtier, grungier and more middle-eastern looking than the images we're used to seeing... So yeah... I'd say that "american" Jesus (you know... the one with good queer-hatin' small town values) is not real.

I guess since I don't know the guy who's missing, I shouldn't care, right?
But to just say that if someone believes something that is complete nonsense we shouldn't care even if it causes someone's life is potentially at risk... well... i think that's a little cold.
Whenever I read some story about a kid being sick or dieing because of some retarded parents who don't believe in modern medicine and who opt instead to pray the sickness away it pisses me off. I think everyone should care about stuff like this. I mean, praying is fine IN ADDITION to medicine, but to deny a dying child of antibiotics is just cruel.
So yeah... this psychic thing is in the same boat. It's a waste of time and money on the parents' behalf, and they could be spending those resources on a much more logical way of finding their missing son. I CARE.

Wow, how deep of you.

Like, totally!

Walker,
If the psychic is being done as a replacement to conventional means...then you arguement holds some truth. (as far as comparing it to the anti-modern medicine...Christian Science type stuff)
BUT...if it is purely in addition to conventional means...then....let them "waste" their money on whatever they want.
I guess in the end, none of us really have enough information to have valid and concrete opinions on the matter. I still think, for the most part, that it doesn't fall into the realm of things I need to be concerned about.
Again, I do think it is a gigantic waste of resources.
