I'm not in a rush to pick up either. I'd prefer the Wii over the PS3 though. It really looks like a lot of fun!
I just dont have the time to play the game systems I already own. I have a XBOX 360 and a DS Lite already. I really like the Nintendo DS, and if the Wii has the same type of gameplay then I might be really tempted. The 360 games are too involving, heavy on the "grinding."
Speaking of grinding and games, I've been playing Battlefield 2142 on the PC lately. Its been taking up the majority of my game time.
I wont buy the Sony PS3 because I really dont like Sony overall as a company.

I just bought a 1080p tv, so it's going to be difficult to not go with the PS3. It's just too damn expensive! I could see myself rushing out to get one if it were $300-400, but not $600.

No announced PS3 games are taking advantage of 1080p yet according to this. I guess most developers don't think it's worth the extra time and money to program for 1080p when very few consumers will be able to use that functionality.
Pretty graphics are always nice, but I've always been more about fun. The Wii looks like the most fun of any of the next-gen systems. There's a few Xbox360 games that look like a lot of fun as well (Gears of War, Oblivion, Dead Rising) so that would probably be my second choice (any maybe I'll get one whenever the next price drop occurs). No games on the PS3 look interesting enough for me yet. They're all sequels of PS2 games or ports of PS2/Xbox360 games with updated graphics. And just updated graphics aren't worth the $600 system and $60+ per game to me. :( There needs to be more!
I got my first hands-on with the PS3 over the weekend at a Target. I wasn't sure if I was playing a PS3 or a PS2 at first because the controller looks nearly identical. It's supposed to be motion-sensing as well, but when it's locked in place with a rubber holder at the display you can't really move it around at all. I played some motorcross type game. Pretty graphics, but nothing that really blew me away. Looked like a gamecube/xbox/pc game running a bit higher def. The gameplay was pretty standard. Race your dirtbike around on a track. Nothing groundbreaking, or really very exciting. I enjoyed crashing my bike into walls & off cliffs to watch the ragdoll physics, but it's nothing I haven't seen before in other games.
Definitely not a game I'd pay $60 for. I don't know if they had any others on display as I only played for 5 minutes and then gave it up to some kids who had gathered behind me. They were commenting that the graphics were FREAKIN SWEET and I asked them if the game was fun. They said it was ok and I said "Yeah. It's sorta fun.... but not $600 worth of fun." and they agreed with me.

I voted Wii. Drawing up my game plan for Sunday morning as I type this. Probably going to pick up Zelda too. The PS3 is an impressive machine, the price is high though. I still haven't made the jump to HD yet (yeah, I suck), so I wouldn't get any benefit from it yet. So I would have to spend about $2000 total to get the most out of it. I think it is cool they decided to throw the cell processor in there, from what I have read that could lead to some impressive performance gains in the future.

How much did that run you? Those are pricey. Do you get or have any 1080p channels? Or blu-ray or hd-dvd? Not sure if those do 1080p yet.

I hope by "Sunday morning" you might 12:00:01AM Sunday morning.
My plan is to hit some of the 24-hour stores (Walmart, Meijer) that sell video games and getting one at midnight. :D

I got a Samsung DLP 50" 1080p from HHGregg. It's listed in the store at $1,997 and I had a coupon for $200 off, but the coupon didn't do much for me since they deal on TV's more than used car salesmen. I ended up working $400 off the price. The guy also threw in a 6' HDMI cable at cost becuase I said that I was just going to find one online. The markup on those things is incredible...retail - $100, cost - $35.
There aren't any 1080p broadcasts yet, and I don't want to shell out for the PS3 and it's blu-ray capabilities either. I'll probably just spend some change on an upconverting DVD player to hold me over. Even without viewing it in full HD, it's still an incredible picture.

Depends on the outcome of a certain football game earlier that day....
Oh, and Brewmaster, that is actually a pretty good deal. Kudos.

I've never done a lineup before... I've pre-bought a few systems in the past, and just waited a few weeks to get others. Actually, I don't think I'd do a lineup if it was outside. Too cold! haha!

I am going to try to weasel 2 PS3's. I am going to keep one and try to sell the other one on Ebay. Right now they are going for 1900$ for unopened presale ps3's. I know I can get my hands on one for sure. I work till 2am, so I think I might head to Easton right after work, scout out Best Buy, Target, Compusa, and Walmart..see what has the best odds and get in line and try to get the 2nd one. I think after Thanksgiving they will be above 2 grand on ebay and if I sell one I more than payed for the 1st one.

I thought about doing that, but I wasn't sure it would be worth the risk. I guess if anything an unopened PS3 is worth what you paid for it, so you'd at least break even.
They're supposed to be in VERY tight supply for launch though.... good luck finding that 2nd one! 8)

It's good to get a group of friends. That way someone can leave for hot cocoa, bathroom, food from Taco Ninja, etc. You also have people to BS with because you cant rely on the rest of the people in line being as cool as you are....
It ranks pretty high on the geek-o-meter.

I think I actually played that. I'm not much into console gaming so I wasn't paying attention, but Max ran over to the display and wanted to play, so I helped him out. Graphics seemed nice, but nothing over nice pc graphics....

My thoughts exactly. I think we reached sort of a tipping point a few years back and unless you're an graphics-o-phile you won't notice much diffence between last-gen games and next-gen games. I still play Resident Evil 4 on the gamecube, which is a beautiful game, and PC games like Half Life 2 and Far Cry came out two years ago and they're still top-notch graphics-wise for joe-average-gamers.
Sony is really banking on that high-end consumer who really cares about bleeding-edge technology and has the home setup to utilize their new system. And really, who are these people who are going to take the time to pause their action-packed first-person-shooter to zoom in and examine the fact that you can see real-time reflections being rendered on your hero's corneas? Is that what makes a video game good? Because it sounds borderline obsessive-compulsive to me.
Honestly though, one series I am excited to see an update for is Grand Theft Auto. I played those "games" a bit on the PS2 (and I put "games" in quotes because GTA3 was a game, and Vice City & San Andreas were just full-conversion mod add-on packs sold as stand alones) but I don't consider myself a rabid fan (I could never get the player controls down very well). Anyway, those games had some terrible graphics for PS2 standards due to their large maps and free-roaming aspects. I'd like to see what sort of jump they'll be able to get on the PS3 since the extra horsepower will allow them to hopefully catch up to last-gen graphics (I imagine they may look as good as Resident Evil 4).
So yeah. Even if I had an extra $800 burning a hole in my pocket I'd probably pass on the PS3 and pick up an Xbox360 and a dozen games for that instead. At least at this point in time.

i think Walker is mostly right with the graphics kind of reaching a peak. I say mostly because I recently played the game F.E.A.R. on a very high end PC and the graphics in that game at full resolution and all effects on looked light years beyond anything i have seen in awhile.
As for the PS3 or Wii I'm not that interested. I am a PC gamer and will stick to that I think.
