It would not be extremely hard controlling the train to work through intersections (busses and streetcars need to do it as well), or some hydraulic wheelbase alterations on the train could allow for elevation over intersections making for an express line (again, I am not an engineer, so the cost and ease of this are beyond me, but I would think it would be similar if not cheaper than developing and creating a light rail or streetcar systems and more flexible).
I don't think "hydraulic wheelase alterations" would allow it to gain elevation above intersections without still causing interference within the intersection. If we had a couple of sky hooks, we could do it...then again we wouldn't need the road at all if that were the case. This would have to be something handled with timing of the lights/trains.
I don't think that some portions of high street would be very viable due to the arches being present--unless we want to tear those down.
A lot of infrastructure will need to be relocated. Traffic lights will all need to be mounted at the sides of the road, or be super tall. Overhead utilities will all need to be raised or relocated underground too.
Personally, I'd just rather see tracks laid in the street for a more traditional type of train.
