Proposed 32 unit apartment on Chesapeake Ave in 5XNW/Clinton Twp

Ran across a new 32 unit proposed apartment complex on Chesapeake Ave, next to the Krogers on Chambers Rd. Actual addresses are 1404 (16 Units), 1438 (8 Units), 1472 (8 units). It looks like they won't actually be next to each other, but be one or two lots separated by existing structures. This area is rather rural/isolated despite be next to King and Northwest Blvd.

Not many other details, other than Metropolitan Holdings LLC is the developer. No renderings are available, other than examples of what it might look like.

I know someone who owns a rental on that block. It is a very strange backwoodsy street (for the area it is in). There is a quirky postage sized park too (with hours posted). It is so odd I would rather they not stick a Drayton Court type development there and mess up the Hatfield and McCoy feel it has.

I used to live on King adjacent to this street. It's really a slice of Hocking or Perry County in the middle of the city. Certainly will be a change to see dense housing, but I don't really have any objections, looks like a good development.

There will still be stuff like that to be found east of Groves & Hamilton, that one area near Blendon Woods and parts of the Southwest Side.

I am very curious about the history of this little area. My husband and I discovered this little neighborhood on a walk several years ago, and it appears to have been a little town of its own years and years ago; some of the properties look like they were once storefronts. I looked up several properties on the auditor's website and they are all listed as being part of "Lincoln Heights." I can't find any information about a former city/village/settlement of that name. Does anyone else know about the history of this area?

Also - there is a property very close to here that I am intrigued by. It is a north-facing little (absolutely tiny!) red house fronting Chambers, between the landscaping business and the daycare center. It looks to be the size of a shed, and the auditor's site states it doesn't even have heat. Yet, when you drive by, there always appears to be a single light on inside. We were always intrigued by this primitive place so I looked it up years ago and it was listed with the auditor as being worth $300-some dollars (insert joke about house I can buy tomorrow with cash). However, now that I look it up again, the property is currently valued at $44K, yet it looks absolutely the same and the auditor still lists it as being without heat.

Anyone know about this little community and its history?

Wierd little block (in a kooky kind of way), I think they should consider removing the guardrail and connect it to Kroger.

New apartment complex planned for Fifth by Northwest area
Rezoning for Chesapeake Avenue properties is set for approval next month; 32 units are planned.

The city of Columbus is considering a proposed apartment complex in the Fifth by Northwest area after annexing property from Clinton Township.

Metropolitan Holdings, a boutique commercial real estate brokerage firm, submitted plans to purchase properties at 1404, 1438 and 1472 Chesapeake Ave. and redevelop the sites into apartment buildings. Each property is composed of a number of different parcels, with each parcel containing a pair of multifamily dwellings.

In total, there would be 32 residential units at the development

I live close to the area you mention near Blendon Woods (off Cherry Bottom Rd.) Cool backstory for that little area...it sits in the flood plain of the Hoover Dam upstream. Once the dam was completed, the City basically tried to force them out by shutting them off from most services. That approach hasn't worked, and for decades the residents hang on in modest homes even though they aren't eligible for flood insurance. I've driven through before and feel I've been transported to what isolated mining towns must look like nestled into mountain valleys far from other towns. I felt like an unwanted interloper and didn't linger long.

the chesapeake area was part of clinton township. its closely related to the neighborhood behind Lennox called University View. Columbus has a long history with circuses...and the circus would camp out by the railroad tracks on that side of town. According to somebody who lives on Chesapeake, the homes in University View were the places where white circus workers lived. Black circus workers lived in the chesapeake homes, very few of which are left.

Noticed they are now advertising on CU and a couple other places:

It looks like they made some effort not to make a typical 'big box'.

(Too bad the little neighborhood auto garage painted in Cleveland Browns colors and logos did not make it into the rendering)
