Here is an exciting new proposal for reactor design. It uses reactor waste as fuel; pulls most of the energy out of its fuel; produces minimal amounts of waste that is radioactive for merely hundreds of years;p and has built in safety features that are idiot proof.

Always good to be looking for improved technologies with energy (and its cost) an important factor in world economies.

But let's not forget that nuclear is and alsways has been a safe, clean energy technology. Nobody died from radiation at Fukushima. The two other largest nuclear energy prodcuers, France and the U.S., have stellar safety records in their nuclear industries.

True as far as they go. But those safety measures come at incredibly high prices, and even the nuclear industries of major nations are not immune to cost pressures. One of the reasons Fukushima Daiichi was such a serious problem (even if there were no direct fatalities, the economic and cultural damage was significant) was that the reactors were past the end of their rated operating lives. (Though admittedly, even a brand new reactor might not have survived the combination earthquake-tsunami-landslide that hit Fukushima.)
