i think this would be a good winter menu addition at some place like Betty's. Liz, can we suggest a Columbus variant of poutine at one of your fine establishments?
it would also work at or Press Grill or the like.

Maybe at Dirty Franks. It goes well with Hot Dogs.

I'm not kidding.

Never heard of poutine until I got to Vancouver. It's pretty popular there. I don't trust it for some reason. It's just soggy fries to me. Indeed McDonalds caters to the eating habits of wherever they may be. Canada- Mcpoutine. Hawaii- spam and teriyaki burgers.

Closest thing is fries and gravy at the Blue Danube. No cheese curds. If I am at a place like Bob Evan's and in the mood, I'll ask for a side of gravy with my fries. Warms my little half-breed soul right up.
One of the best experiences of my life was finding a Canadian bar in Mexico serving fries and gravy.
Now if only we could get back bacon here...

I've never seen it here, alas.
I've even seen poutine at KFC, up in the great white north. Which is kind of hilarious when you think about it.

For awhile, I was having PJ's make me what I referred to as the "Fat Montreal" whenever I'd order delivery. It consisted of fries, gravy, cheese, peas, and chicken breast. It was sort of my PJ's spin on the poutine galvaude. Judging by the confused replies when I'd ask for a "Fat Montreal," I doubt they ever added it to their regular menu.

Yellowbrick Pizza in OTE has it.

Fast-food style or more gourmet-y?

We were up in Montreal this summer. Went to a great French restaurant. One of their specialties was "Poutine foie gras". Talk about different ends of the spectrum.

Once, while on the drive back from Toronto, a friend and I came up with a plan for a poutine-only restaurant. In addition to standard poutine, there was breakfast poutine (with country gravy and hashbrowns for fries) and desert poutine (with sticks of fried ice cream).
So, if you have a way to visit the theoretical alternate Columbus in my mind, I can point you to the perfect restaurant.
That said, I'm really surprised that poutine never took off down here. I'd be hard pressed to think of a more midwestern sounding dish than gravy and cheese on french fries.

We looked at it for our menus based on this thread actually. The cost of cheese curds drove the price up much higher than we felt comfotable charging. I'm not sure why the cost of cheese curds is so high in this region.

Fries and gravy would be just as welcome. Now if only we could get back bacon in the states.

Don't care for the Canadian Bacon?

What they call "Canadian Bacon" isn't the same as the real stuff.
