Check out this animal. Amazingly affectionate and playful. And it has a rather impressive defense mechanism.

Cute. Too bad he's sticky and not fuzzy.

This must be the prequel to "When porcupines attack!"
I would think the necessity to wear guantlets+1 for handling probably will dampen the pet market's reaction.

But just think of how good they would be at guarding property. A super friendly porcupine that moves in for affection on an unsuspecting trespasser!

If you like goats, you could always move to St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands. There are herds of feral goats roaming the island. I was once almost late to work because a herd of goats was blocking the road.
Of course, there are lots of other feral creatures there too: dogs, cats, chickens. The indigenousness adds a little sanity to the place. Nothing like having an early morning encounter with a 6 foot long iguana on the way to your car.

That baby penguin video is the cutest thing ever. I would have the baby penguin over a porcupine. Do penguins naturally smell fishy though like at the zoo?

Virgin Islands green iguana is a protected species, so don't hassle them.
That gets to be a real pain during their mating season. It is not unheard of for a male iguana to run into the middle of the road in front of you. It will look your car dead in the headlights and start doing the "push ups of love." Then it will run over and start humping your tire. You just have to sit there and wait till it finishes. It's a crime to harass them.

The penguin is awesome.

Iguanas have very bad manners. I took this photo at Tillet Garden on St. Thomas on February 24, 1998.

We may have some cute animal videos this year. A robin is building a nest on one of the downspouts that Chris Sherman installed on our house last year.
