There are those that say there's not a lot of difference between what republocrats and democans do with regard to economic issues. While differences on social issues do exist, not everyone cares enough about those ( and those that do care seem to be dying off from old age )... check poll numbers on abortion, gay marriage, etc. .
So, to ensure a base, one attacks the opposition to inspire an emotional reaction.
Not to say all differences boil down to feelings of course. Just a passing thought from a recent conversation...
