Columbus laws consider bicycles to be the equal of automobiles (the moving violation I received while strapped to a stretcher in the ER was all the proof I needed of that). That said, I wish bike thieves could get charged for "grand theft auto."
I awoke yesterday morning to find my bicycle frame still locked to the fence, but the rest of the parts were stripped. Did I call the police? Of course not; what good would that have done?

Police have been pretty quick in Victorian Village and Short North for the past few years. One time their responses was late because I gave them my address wrong?! Someone had broken into a bunch of mail boxes looking for Christmas checks at my building. I've reported vandalism and assults that I have witnessed while pedicabbing and they always got their quick.
In June one of the pedicabs was stolen in broad daylight from the garage. Police caught the kids within 20 minutes at 4th & 11th at Kelly's. There were five cruisers and a paddywagon; cuffed and stuffed them. I don't think its gone to trial yet, but the police did awesome on that one.
Saturday night had a real heavy police presence. Saw some gang squad hanging out by the Greek church. Dude had a big vest on; shotgun shell bandolier. Pretty cool.

This is a little off subject, but bares repeating.
If you see something suspicious or Just feel a little uneasy about a person. Snap a picture with your cell phone. And don't hide that you are doing it.
It seems like a dick move at the time and you might be called names.
But they know you have a picture of them and they dont know if you uploaded it.
In Philly, over 50% of the time I took someones picture they took off running. Out of about 30 times I only had one person get upset. I told him I was 'scrapbooking in the city'.
Which makes no sense, but he was fine with it.

I caught a couple of losers breaking into the garage behind my house last week around 3a. It was one of those cooler nights where we could sleep with the windows open so I heard them loud and clear. So, I yelled from the window for them to "get the f*ck outta there". They turned around and asked me did I have a problem. Really?! No, you're only breaking into someone's property. Then he tried to tell me it was his Dad's and he wanted him to get some things out of there. They left, with nothing, a few seconds later. But! They proceeded to return about an hour later for round two and that's when I called CPD. There were four cars on-scene within minutes. Unfortunately they didn't catch the losers (to my knowledge) but at least they responded. I'm hoping I didn't jinx myself for the next time I need to call :-)

oh carl..... yeah another "shit farmer" as i like to call em. yeah good ole carl was scoping out B@T metals for scrap. caught the idiot looking for a way in. asked him what he was doing, he replied with leave me alone, this is merica i have a right to be here so on and so forth. i dont care about your POS building and on and on. i loudly repeated his LP number, he then gave me his full name with phone number. i thanked him for the info which pissed the shit of him and he drove his black rattle can painted back window missing 1986 4 cyl chevy truck away.
i dont think he realized that i actually saved his life, the B@T metals building is not a safe place to walk around in. it seems like everyday something is collapsing inside. 4 days ago i heard a very loud crash followed by what sounded like wood ripping apart.

Is there a rise in car jacking and innocent people robberies out side of the home there?
I would hope that the rise of crazies in the state and world as a whole would be more of a reason to get a CCW permit.

Good for you.
Not sure if you've already got your gear sorted out ( not all CCW classes require it ), but last time I was in Vances they'd gotten another shipment of police trade-in Glocks, gen 3 with night sights, for under $400.

I live in Vic Vil and have had my house alarm go off a few times. They were all false alarms, but the police were always there in moments. No complaints at all.
