Anyone know what is going in next to Chase Bank? I know its a pocket park, but I haven't seen the plans.

I saw the plans a while back, but didn't find them online. The reality is this park will probably turn into a creepy bum hangout. Not hatin' - but, that is just the reality of a city. Whenever I see that concrete sofa by skullys it gives me the shivers.

Considering it will be right next to the Chase ATM, the bums will doubt love the concrete sofa to hit you up after using the machine. It will also probably get the usual ones that hang out in the Mac's lot to move there as well.

Here's a sketch of the West Lincoln/Chase pocket park. I do believe the center is a water feature.

Wow, the bums are really making out in this pocket park deal! First they get a living room (next to Skully's), then they get a family room (next to Marchella's), and now they're getting a shower.
I love the idea of the pocket parks, but unfortunately the only thing that seems to be going on here is providing a place for vagrants to gather and beg for change or sell their "art".

Couldn't have put it better myself. Is it me, or do both of the projects on their website seem like an unnecessary waste of time, money and manpower? The closing of Buttles Ave seems like it would create nothing more than a traffic inconvenience. If they really felt a change is needed, couldn't they just put up the planters and leave the thoroughfare be? And not to put down the less fortunate (we're lucky we don't have more in this city), but the day I see someone who has an actual residence in the area use that concrete sofa, I'll get on board with their other plans.

Don't get me wrong, I think the pocket parks a nice addition. They are taking what where otherwise spots of undermanaged landscaping and turning them into something very pleasing to the eye.
But you're right, skipping the seating areas might have been a better design choice.

There's a beautiful Short North Special Improvement District plan proposed for Brickel e/o High Street. It would allow outdoor seating for Betty's and the SNT with a public pedestrian path down the center.
Let's face it, the back alley intersection of Brickel @ Pearl was never intended as a retail storefront that relies on walk-in foot traffic. It seems to me that little specialty clothing store needs a High Street location. It's hard enough to become a known quantity in the niche fashion business without being hidden away, off the main strip.
That's why rents are more expensive on High Street.

I have to admit, the fountains in the urban parks can be an issue. I see guys "cleaning up" in the umbrella girl fountain at Schiller all the time (luckily it sticks with usage as a sink, not a toilet).
Have to say though, I'm kind of torn on the hating on the homeless in the park thing. Honestly, at Schiller, even though they're there...they are rarely a problem or even an inconvenience. I think enforcement is really a key, and I'll tell you what happens at Schiller:
1. Homeless guy who minds his own business, doesn't panhandle, and when he has contact with people is polite=left alone.
2. Homeless guy who is actually gregarious with people, dogs, etc. but still doesn't panhandle=helped. (3 winter coats, a bag of clothes, numerous cash donations just from me alone last few months).
3. Homeless guy who is a nuisance in any way? Cops are called, cops drive into the park, cops take guy away.
I think what ends up happening is the word spreads...act this way you are gonna be cool, act this way you're gonna be in jail. Result is that the homeless in Schiller are just part of the park now that no one really minds.
EDIT: p.s. I even see a lot of the park regulars, and I mean upper/society women, who know the number 2 variety homeless guys by name and are 100% comfortable with their presence.

I don't think that what Roy posted was meant to offend the folks at Tigertree.
I think the general public would probably enjoy more patio space at restaurants in the Short North if given the weighed options.
And I think it's safe to say that any type of business would fare better in the Short North ON High rather than right off it on any of the side streets. Most people only know the Short North to be the strip on High street, so I'm sure it's a challenge to get people to wander even a half a block from it for any reason other than to search for parking.

Maybe they could start an initiative to bus the homeless down to the southern states where the weather is nicer? There's plenty of lakes down there for them to wash up in :D
As for aesthetics of conrete sofas... well, that says it all

That reminds me of a South Park episode...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_of_the_Living_Homeless
They heavily armor a bus and take it to the Community Center in South Park, where the homeless have gathered below the adults. They advertise California as "super cool for the homeless" by singing a modified version of 2Pac and Dr. Dre's California Love, and lead them there. Before heading back to South Park, Cartman shows off by jumping his skateboard over three homeless people.
California! They love the homeless!

Who wouldn't want to see California, homeless of not 8)

If there is any interest I'll go find some articles to support this but, like the rest of the country, downtown LA is undergoing the same urban development hype (I mean, we're buying in too, I'm just saying) so the lobbyist for the downtown LA condo developers came up with this plan to load the homeless downtown onto busses and equally distribute them throughout LA county, so you've got an even better chance of seeing some homeless people in California now.
