I *love* cheesesteaks, but not stand behind other people in line for an hour love. Give me the "less popular" but no huge line North Market any day. :)
The North Market *is* popular, during lunch time and on weekends. Especially when the farmer's market is going on too. There is plenty of parking for the North Market - even at the busiest times, I've never had to wait more than 2 or 3 minutes for a parking space. Usually, I have no trouble finding a metered space either. But I know if worse comes to worse, there's parking in the Vine St garage across the street.
Yeah, south jersey is as bad as ohio when it comes to transit.
I think the north market is popular, but i think that it is somewhat limited by poor access. When i said it wasn't popular, I just meant that for the size metro area it is in, its RELATIVELY quiet.

Andrew makes a valid point that adds to what I was saying. I think people like the quick eat aspect of the North Market eateries........and they're so popular cuz there are pretty limited options in SN/AD areas.
I mean, seriously, where can you pop in and out of and get quick takeout? Very few places......maybe some of the bars?

I really think you guys are being a little paranoid here. If it (extended hours) works it will be because a larger audience, that because of the current hours, will be able to experience the North Market. I am not suggesting any changes beyond their hours. If it doesn't work, it would be because they serve a niche audience and columbus as a whole is not interested (or not interested enough) to merit the change.
I am still confused about the not financially viable argument. My whole point is I think there is a built in audience that would flood the building at night with as many people as during the day. If it's profitable to stay open during the day, there is no difference there. I am sure there are some establishments (hell, I have one) that are operated solely by the owner. If the numbers work, the margin might shrink a bit, but it will be good for him/her in the long run.

Yeah, on that note, I would like to add how much I LOVE the North Market. My parents were in town last week. I made them go. My friends band was in town yesterday, I made them go. It is the first non-clothing related place I make people visiting us go. I just want to have more access to it than I do right now.

i love the north market. i go there mainly to eat. it is the only good place on this side of town where i can get fantastic vietnamese food. too many times to count, i decide that i want pho or broken rice AFTER the market closes and i curse their early closing times. i was pretty happy when they extended their hours to 7 pm on most days. however, what is up with the hours of the NMPG? the last few saturdays that i have been there, they weren't open to serve breakfast or lunch :( how am i to get my mielone fix???

seriously though.....i wish there was a decent Vietnamese place in the greater downtown area. Same goes for chinese, thai, and indian. Serious lack of options with out going up to campus......and even then.........

i hear you. i think moving to bexley was a bad move. i miss the german village so much :( pistachia, we barely got to know each other.
so far we've found two good pizza joints (Anthony's and Rubinos) but not much else. Only good thing about living on the east side is that we're closer to Pad Thai and Bangkok on Refugee Rd. Boo! I need to start a post about good restaurants on the east side to get ideas.

Ann-Marie just had a baby, so the kitchen part was closed while they were home those first few weeks after. They're back to normal now, I was just there a few days ago...

It's not downtown, but have you been over to Mi Mi Cafe at the Columbus Square shopping center (corner of Cleveland/161) yet? The best bahn mi in town, really good authentic pho with all the nasty bits included. :)
