Yeah, they took a ship full of TANKS! a couple weeks back. Didn't think they could top that...until now
Pirates are pretty badass when you get right down to it.

Well. I kind of appreciate their disruption of the military-industrial complex and oil industries and general disruption of capitalism.
But they are no better than the tank makers and oil company execs with their use of force and violence. Pirates are bad. They still thrive on greed.
All this pirate activity despite the presence of NATO warships.
This morning the news has been talking about a pirate ship that was sunk by an Indian naval ship. Perhaps we should consider outsourcing our war effort?
An op-ed from a prof at the Naval War College on this appeared in Forbes today, and another in the LA Times.
I was shocked to learn this (from the second article):
What's more, although NATO warships, the U.S. 5th Fleet and ships from Russia and India have been successful in overtaking pirate vessels, they're seldom sure what to do with them. No country has yet been willing to try or imprison the captured pirates, who are often simply returned to their boats after their weapons are seized. That's not exactly a powerful deterrent.
We're not even willing to try or imprison them? Not to be my usual warmongering self or anything, but what about sinking them?

An extra ration or rum for gramarye, matey!

This is probably because most of them surrender. I'm pretty sure there's laws against sinking a ship that is surrendering to you.
The ones that don't surrender are fair game which is probably what happened with the indecent with India. Even then they only sank 1 of the 3 ships involved, and only after they were fired upon.
Pirates are no match for Team Zissou.

Now I know why the rum is always gone ...
Crappy and boring video of pirate town
NPR Morning Edition has been covering this for a while now.

Really gotta question the wisdom of attacking a U.S. cruise ship

I seem to remember something similar last year, but google is failing me.
Or, uh, make that three years ago.
Every time I see the title of this thread I think of this:

That game was so awesome.
