Some friends and I stopped by the "Go West" art event in Franklinton yesterday, which was really fun. Lots of interesting art, and I especially loved the circus theme. There were some really great artists represented, and we especially loved Sara Adrian's work (www.saraadrian.com) I took some (mostly crappy) photos and thought I would share :-) (the rest are here)

Thanks, Walker! I can't wait for Urban Scrawl. I missed it last time, but I'll for sure be there this year.

I especially like the photo of all of the artists standing up against the building trying to stay out of the rain. :D

I should also add that your photos managed to work around my one and only complaint with the event: The unfriendliness of the Broad Street traffic. I think the event would feel much nicer if they allowed for on-street parking along Broad right around through there for the day. Otherwise, hanging out on the sidewalk with cars going by in the curb-side lane at 40mph was a little bit of an aesthetic turnoff. Having a buffer of parked cars would be an easy fix.

Looking forward to the next one! :D

I know, I love that one too!

actually, we parked right across from the vacant house, on street....maybe that wasn't legal, though :-X. But I know what you mean, perhaps that's something they can work on as they develop the area.

Thanks Walker and Jen for posting these great pictures! it was great to see you guys. on behalf of the other FAD members: thanks to everyone who came out to the event. Thanks to GCAC, the United Way, Columbus Foundation for helping pay the expenses. a special thanks to all the artists who had work in the shows. a special special thanks to the artists who came out and painted at this and all of our other events - because of you we have a wealth of great paintings which we hope to keep hanging up around the neighborhood and in the new FAD gallery/studio space.

GO WEST! went better than anyone could have hoped. it confirms my belief that lot of people who would like to spend some time in Franklinton if only there were a reason to come.

the residents were very pleased to host. It was extraordinarily nice for those of us who are there every day. many residents had pieces in the shows some of which sold!

As you may know Tommy's Diner was open for dinner last night for the first time ever and they did a great business. Here's hoping that someday soon they'll be open every night!

Yeah crossing Broad Street is a big problem. We have participated in several planning and walkability studies for f-ton and the most common recommendation is traffic calming on Broad. We hope to some day work with the city traffic folks and ODOT to do something about it. However, on-street parking is permitted on most areas of W. Broad at non-rush hour times but there happens to be a couple of COTA stops in that section.
