In a Yahoo article about Wal-Mart, there was a "related link" to a photo collection by Brian Ulrich of stores and malls that are run down, closed, or not far from closing. After going through a few of the collections, I came across one (the "Dark Stores" collection) that had a few photographs from the local City Center and Westland malls.

The Pep Boys shot looks like the set up of the one on W Broad as well.

It's weird to see the City Center photo, and to know that it's already all gone. It wasn't like some of the other malls (even Westland) where they are falling apart or really run down. It just missed the life it used to have.

I follow Dixie Square Mall in Harvey Illinois pretty closely as it is the abandoment photographer's dream to visit. In the last few years people on blogs have been griping about people stealing signage, now judging from one of those pictures it is pretty clear who's been involved.

Local photographer Ardine Nelson did a great series on the abandonment and demolition of the City Center Mall. She got amazing access as it was being torn down. Here's a link.

Those Brian Ulrich pictures are fascinating. Wouldn't it be great to bring that exhibition to the City Center Gallery at Urban Art Space? Got my gears flowing.
