Here is a link to a new group formed to help support a solution for the Nationwide Arena and CBJ lease problems. No matter which side you fall on I think we can all agree losing 42 games a year in the district will be detrimental to the district and downtown.

Other then the vague 'keep the bluejackets in the Arena District' can you summarize what this petition is for? Is it for taxpayers to pay for the Blue Jackets, buy the Arena, put the stakeholders in a steel cage and fight it out etc....

[url=http://www.forwardtogethercolumbus.org/]Granted I seem to be out of the bluejacket loop..
But what is the petition for? I read it and it basically says we resolve to find a solution to financial problems.Posted 2 years ago # -
I honestly just stumbled upon the site and petition myself. What I took from it is that they just want to show the parties involved that there are people in Columbus who want a solution found that will keep the team in Columbus. Sorry I can't provide any further information.

I guess I'm confused, out of the loop, or both. Is moving the Blue Jackets something that's being actively discussed? I'm not going to sign a petition just because I agree that the Arena District is a nice space and we want to keep it, even though nobody is talking seriously about moving the team.

I think it is mostly posturing due to ill concieved contracts but the NHL imho has over expanded.

They should have listed to Lamar Hunt in the beginning and renegotiated with Nationwide before the arena was built; Hunt knew then the team wouldn't be sustainable with that deal. They put themselves in this hole. The NHL overpaying it's players doesn't help either.

I think, rather than having people sign a petition, the more effective way to keep the CBJ in the arena would have been for people to buy tickets and go to the game. A petition with 1,000 signatures means little when 1,000 people buying tickets would mean people putting their money where their signature is.

"Forward Together believes that if nothing happens soon, there is a likelihood we could lose the Blue Jackets and that will be the beginning of a snowball of problems for the Arena District, Columbus and
Franklin County."you wouldn't have to sweat over a crappy hockey team moving, with a casino down the street.

Maybe they should turn the Arena into a close to downtown mall.
I wounder how much it will cost the city to tear it down...

Has anyone been to a Blue Jackets game?
How full are they?I know I can always get $10 student tickets 1 hour to game time, so they dont ever seem to be sold out. They also have a $25 deal which includes food and drink.
CU outing? We should have enough students on here to gather up tickets.

The new team buzz seems to have worn off and the attendance looks like it has settled into the 14.5-16.5K average range. Is that good for NHL?Posted 2 years ago # -

Which is why they should have got a better deal with Nationwide before the arena was built, the guys that run the Blue Jackets are idiots for not figuring it out sooner. As long as it doesn't require government money I hope they stay, I just don't think any business should be bailed out for overpaying for rent and overpaying employees.

Looks like excellent attendance.
Lowest was 80%If you can't balance the budget with 80-100% you did your math wrong to start with. And coming crying when a predictable result happens gets no sympathy from me.
from http://www.columbusunderground.com/blue-jackets-attendance-is-up-so-far-this-season
The Blue Jackets say they are putting more fans in the seats in Nationwide Arena and drawing considerably more television viewers at home. Team officials said yesterday that Blue Jackets attendance is up about 600 fans per game from a year ago to an average of 14,322. The team’s television ratings in central Ohio on Fox Sports Net are up 38 percent from a year ago, officials said.
Do the Columbus BJ's own the arena and rent it out to other venues.
I'm trying to find the hardship here. The NHL told Priest that the reason the team wasn't making money was the lack of income from the building, which certainly may be a factor. I, however, can't help but to point out that, when Columbus entered the NHL in 2000, their payroll was just $17-million.
Eight seasons later, it was up to $50-million.

Blue Jackets President Mike Priest said the club made a modest profit in its first two seasons, but in the past seven years lost $80 million, including more than $10 million this past year, despite the team making the playoffs for the first time
So basically they can have 100% sold out games, and they will still lose money.
Lets blame it on the Nationwide. The areana costs to much to rent.
Lets not ask why payroll went up 300%Looks like if they got the arena free, they would still be losing money.
This looks pretty self inflicted.

the NHL should let hockey players carry guns, and shoot at each other.
get members of the Crips and Bloods, teach them to skate, and call the team the Columbus Cruds.
instant success.
