I still have yet to understand why you're so concerned with a neighborhood you don't live in. Please don't turn my neighborhood into another joke like Washington Beach

I am planning on moving there soon.
One does not need be a first person participant to be concerned about something. I am concerned about the War in Iraq despite me not being there or having an Iraqi background.
Washington Beach is no joke, its is a recognized identifier by many folks who live there. A place name does not need to be used in an official manner to make it a legitimate thing.
I am not the only one forming the Peach District, I am just the most outspoken one on CU. There are other circles and forums, and discussion than those taking place on this popular web-site. The others participating in this process that are serious, concerned, and intellectual young people.

1. It's an AWESOME neighborhood.
2. That name still sucks.

^^Can you explain the origin of the name? I have been curious for some time. Is there a peach tree or two there or something? Is there a restaurant that has great peach pie? Is there a peach-colored wall on a building? A lot of Georgian (the state, not the country) migrants?

Movin to the country gonna eat a lot of peaches
Im movin to the country Im gonna eat me a lot of peaches
Im movin to the country Im gonna eat a lot of peaches
Movin to the country Im gonna eat a lot of peaches
Peaches come from a can they were put there by a man
In a factory downtown
If I had my little way Id eat peaches everyday
Sun soakin bulges in the shade
Movin to the country Im gonna eat a lot of peaches
Movin to the country Im gonna eat a lot of peaches
Im movin to the country gonna eat a lot of peaches
Movin to the country gonna eat a lot of peaches
I took a little nap where the roots all twist
Squished a rotten peach in my fist
And dreamed about you woman
I poked my finger down inside makin a little room for a ant to hide
Natures candy in my hand or can or a pie
Millions of peaches peaches for me
Millions of peaches peaches for free
Millions of peaches peaches for me
Millions of peaches peaches for free
Look out
Millions of peaches peaches for me
Millions of peaches peaches for free
Millions of peaches peaches for me
Millions of peaches peaches for free

Well, It originated months ago by its current leader Brett Zehner. He tells the story best, so I'll leave it to him.

Agreed! As someone who is moving to this area in about 5 days, I was under the impression I was moving to Dennison Place, at least according to the City Auditor. Even if it really is the Peach District, I guarantee I'll never tell anyone, I have a hard enough time telling people where Italian Village is.

But what's the point? What are you doing? What are they concerned about? Certainly not property values as I assume most of these kids are renters. What is being discussed in these circles and forums?
The first page that comes up when I google "washington beach columbus oh" is a MySpace page. The next page is your bike tour. Not exactly appealing to potential home buyers.
I know these things don't concern you, but there are people who are actually making a difference in the neighborhood by buying and improving homes, paying property taxes, improving the curb appeal of our streets.
Start a neighborhood watch. Start an organization to keep the parks looking nice or to tutor to the kids at our elementary school. Start a group that watches our small businesses after hours to make sure what happened at the cleaners doesn't happen to us.
My point is that these "serious, concerned, and intellectual young people" should do more than plan parties that give the appearance of a loud and boisterous area (of which my neighborhood is not). So, if that's the Peach District, I am officially filing for the cecession of North of Smith, West of High, South of King, and East of Neil.

I haven't seen him lead anything in the area yet.

Ndecent makes an excellent point. There could be a peach canning factory, or maybe just a lot of Presidents of the USA fans.
As for the name, I think it's a little odd that a neighborhood over 100 years old could get a new name just months ago. Of course, I think the districting of downtown (i.e. Mile on High, River South, Market Exchange, Discovery, etc...) is pretty ridiculous too. At least the changing Pen West to the Arena District made some sense considering they built an arena and demolished a penitentiary. Anyway, I look forward to "President" Zehner's statement.

Exactly, I am so fed up with this. Eventually these things (like the Washington Beach crap) filters out of the hipster culture (which I have no problem with, to each his own) and seeps in to the real world where people like Rave hear it and think, I don't want to live next door to the next Times New Viking. Next house, please.

We are trying hold a Tuesday Night Potluck to potentially form a mission statement and plan of action. I am also planning a festival later this month.

Have you actually gone out in to the neighborhood to get the word out about this or just started a facebook group?

I should say, I'm all for community and I'd love to have an organized group to talk about issues concerning our neighborhood, but I feel like this type of "movement" excludes the people most vital to the neighborhood - the ones planting roots who aren't waiting for the next best thing to come along.
