PB&J Jazz Saturdays at the Topiary Park

    "PBJ & Jazz at the Topiary Park: Jazz for Kids and Families” is a new summer home for the Jazz Arts Group’s (JAG) fall/winter PBJ series to be relocated at the Jazz Academy in the newly restored Lincoln Theatre. The summer series is a collaborative effort between JAG, Friends of the Topiary Park and Friends of the Library.
    The concerts are free, and guests are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch and a blanket. The Topiary Park concert themes are tied into the themes presented at family story time at the Main Library from 11 to 11:30 a.m.

    PBJ & Jazz Concert Dates
    June 20: “Get a Clue: Listen”
    Starring: Matt and Natalie Adams
    July 18: “Tools”
    Starring: Eric Paton and Yumbambe
    Aug. 15: “Beaches”
    Starring: Derek DiCenzo and friends
    Sept. 19: “Youth Jam”
    Starring: Young Columbus jazz musicians

    The Jazz Arts Group of Columbus (JAG) is excited to announce the 2009-2010 season of the Jazz Academy’s PBJ & Jazz concert series in the newly restored Lincoln Theatre.

    The Cats and the Fiddle with Christian Howes
    PBJ & Jazz concerts are 1-hour long interactive concerts designed to introduce jazz and American music to young children and their families. Featuring some of Columbus’ finest musicians and ensembles, PBJ & Jazz concerts are hosted by former Columbus Music Hall owner and retired music educator Rebecca Ogden and are a great introduction to live music for the youngest audience member.

    “It has been so much fun over the years to work with great musicians playing real live jazz for kids and their families,” states Ogden. “Every concert is a treat. I am delighted that PBJ & Jazz has a life after the Columbus Music Hall in its new home at the Lincoln!”

    PBJ & Jazz concerts are $5 per person at the door with a family maximum of $20. Children receive a peanut butter & jelly sandwich, juice and a cookie.

    The 2009-10 concerts will be held in the ballroom in the Lincoln Theatre Complex, 769 E. Long Street, Columbus, OH 43203. All concerts begin promptly at 11:00 a.m.

    Thanks for posting about the winter series, Kerry. I took my then 3 year old to a PB&Jazz set last year and it was fantastic. I'm looking forward to giving her a chance to explore the awesome new Lincoln Theatre.

    JAZZ ARTS GROUP’S 2010 PBJ & JAZZ
    SUMMER CONCERT SERIES CONTINUES
    WITH DEREK DICENZO & FRIENDS

    Columbus, OH - The Jazz Arts Group of Columbus (JAG) is pleased to return to the Topiary Park downtown for its second season of outdoor PBJ & Jazz concerts. PBJ & Jazz at the Topiary Park: Jazz for Kids and Families is a collaborative effort between JAG, Friends of the Topiary Park, Friends of the Library, and the Columbus Museum of Art.

    The next show in the series will take place on Saturday, July 10 and feature Derek DiCenzo & Friends (Caribbean). Other series highlights include Yumbambe (Latin Jazz) on August 14; and the New Basics Brass Band (New Orleans) on September 11.

    PBJ & Jazz concerts are 1-hour long interactive concerts designed to introduce jazz and American music to young children and their families. The noon concert will conclude with a hands-on art activity, from 1:00 – 2:00 PM, presented by the Columbus Museum of Art. The Topiary Park is located at 480 E. Town Street in downtown Columbus. Exclusive media support is provided by WCBE 90.5 FM. In-kind support is provided by Columbus Recreation and Parks and the Discovery District Special Improvement District.
