Trying to plan a little overnight getaway with my fiancee this Friday for our "anniversary" (4 years since we met). I'm looking for somewhere that's relatively close (<= 45min drive) that's scenic/interesting/charming and that has at least one nice dining option. Thought of checking out The Winds for dinner, but I don't really know anything about Yellow Springs. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Yellow Springs is an awesome little town, and the Winds is sooo good. Would be fun to do dinner and then drinks. I'd stay overnight, maybe go for an early hike the next day at John Bryan State Park, lunch at Ha Ha Pizza the next day (i love falafel, feta, banana peppers and tomato combo) and then stop at Young's Dairy for some ice cream and goat watching on the way outta town. Those goats crack my shit up.

Might be a good anniversary to go see where Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall got married.
Yellow Springs is great - both The Winds and Sunrise Cafe would fit your needs. It's just a cute college town that looks like it belongs in NH, not Ohio. There are plenty of B and B near Yellow Spings. John Bryant State Park is much like the Hocking Hills with a sandstone gorge and good hiking. There is also Clifton Mills which is interesting?
Hocking Hills has The Inn at Cedar Falls but the food there has been hit or miss. The location is nice though.

aaminian, I'd say that Yellow Springs and Granville are probably your better bets. I like the little chalets down in Hocking Hills but not sure about dining options. If you go to Yellow Springs, I've heard good things about The Springs Motel (www.thespringsmotel.com). Quirky and cheap.

Sunrise Cafe is one of my fave places on erff...but for a special occasion, I'd have to definitely vote Winds without a doubt. Sunrise would be great for lunch the next day though if pizza doesn't float yer boat.
Now I need a Yellow Springs weekend too!

We did a day trip to Yellow Springs about a month ago and we really enjoyed it. Winds Cafe for lunch, hit some local shops, and Youngs Dairy for ice cream. I'd also recommend that you hit Frank Lloyd Wright's Westcott House in Springfield for a tour (reserve in advance) on your way there or back. I got the recommendation from Twitter when I mentioned a daycation and we were really glad that we added it.

There is a nice Bed and breakfast in Granville you could stay at too if you go

The Love Bug Cabins are fun in Hocking Hills. Kitchen with utensils, small grill, really cool bathroom w/jacuzzi. Feels like you are in a tree house. Very close to the Grouse Nest restaurant. Nothing fancy about the restaurant but they have their own herb garden which they use for their offerings. The Inn at Cedar Falls is also close by. If you love to hike or look at leaves changing...Old Man's Cave, Devil's Bath, Conkle' Hollow and others are just a short five or ten minute drive. If you choose to cook in your cabin...small farms saturate the area with fresh eggs etc.. For a small fee, you can bring your dogs which was a feature that we loved. Easy to find. One turn off of Route 23 and you are there.
