OK I love this forum, but have noticed that anything Short North gets adulating and effusive love.
So, CU-ers...is there ANYTHING that y'all don't like about the SN ?

I don't care much for the vagrants.
It pisses me off that I can never find a 2 br/2ba single family home with a fenced yard that has at least 1300 sq ft and will allow my three dogs there for 1200 bucks.
I've been searching for MONTHS.

LOL...and plan on months to come on that one man ;)
You could, however, find that in Merion Village, right on the cusp of German Village with absolutely no trouble. (near where I am, which is like Thurman and Jaeger).

In the SN??? Dream on, Daz.

I've found some places in Italian Village that are DAMN close. As far as Merion Village, I've increased my searching into there over the last couple of months.
Hoping to find something really promising soon. I'm going to look at a place that's a couple of blocks from Schiller tomorrow.

Just rented the other half of my double, 800 bucks a month for a 2 bedroom/1 bath townhouse with a HUGE fenced in backyard, all updated everything, hardwood floors, etc. and I'm about 4 blocks from Schiller. They're definitely out there.

You know what pisses me off? That I can't have a 6000 square foot condo at the corner of High and Broad for $15 (with 35 cents in monthly condo fees and a 100-year tax abatement).

Your sarcasm is not appreciated.
;)
P.S. I had to find SOMETHING I don't like about the area. Not being able to afford living there is definitely that.
Heh... I'm just giving you a hard time. It just sounds like you're asking for something that just isn't there.
I'm sure you can find something close though.

dear walker underground,
I have wanted to tell you this for a while, but time has not permitted. The very essence of the universe dictates that you CAN, in fact, have everything you want.
You have to start by setting a goal. Be as clear as possible, smells, taste, touch, time, sight. Then, work backwards from that goal.
If you plan your work, and work your plan, as Robert T Kiyosaki says often in his book, Rich Dad, Poor Dad, and visualize the end result daily, you should have no problem flinging wide the generous doors of the universe and taking everything you ever wanted.
This is because when you close your eyes and picture something, Satan sees it, and by giving it to you (with an implied small price of just a piece of your soul; no contract required), knows that you will follow a path of materialism and self-absorption.
This is his master plan for your life. DON'T LET IT HAPPEN. Just pay market price for the condo.
Thank you for your time,
JimL2
Thing I don't like in the Short North-
1. Galleries talking a 50% comission on all artwork sold is the biggest beef. This has become standardized and I can't think of a single gallery that works as hard or harder than any of the artists showing in them.
2. Parking
3. fast affordable food that doesn't come from a bar
4. the fact that between hubbard and fifth ave. There is damn near nothing to keep the the mojo of the short north alive, but they still view it as the short north. Street cars or shuttles of some sort at least for gallery hop night would be so prime.
5. the fact that if two guys or two ladies walk together anywhere in the short they are viewed as gay. (this kills me) Just imagine ndcent and coremodels walking side by side down high st. lol

LOL...I'm single, work in the fashion industry, and walk a shih tzu in German Village brother...I get this daily already ;)
What I don't like about the Short North is having lived there for too many years and having 'younguns' complain that it's not what it used to be, when it used to be a complete and utter ghetto. I also don't like people talking about how to slow the growth down when Columbus has neighborhoods that might as well be scraped.

I don't think anyone is really asking for the Short North of 25 years ago... I think they're asking for the Short North of 5 years ago. Before it had a Starbucks. ;)
I agree that the progression made in the area is still great, even if the cost of living there has pushed out a lot of the creative types. But their complaints are valid ones regardless.
I get aggravated at how often I hear the "parking" complaint. I want to find an innovative way to do a walkability of the Short North campaign. You can find parking in 10 minutes that is within a couple a blocks of your destination. I think (except for gallery hop) the SN is still viewed as a cluster of destination shops/galleries, as opposed to a destination in and of itself.
Tasi should be opening any day now. I hear they are having hang-ups getting the inspector to come... Hopefully they will be up and running by gallery hop, but I think that should be a pretty big asset to the neighborhood.
I am also surprised when people are looking for food they don't see the 3 block walk to the North Market as a solution.
Really??? I had heard Tasi was still quite a ways off. good news if you're right though!
Hmm. I hope I am right too. I gather a lot of not reliable information in passing..

I paid to park two blocks from your store to walk in and get ignored. So if I could have parked closer it would have WASTED less time. wink wink.
On a serius note about parking in general. Sure if you are buying a wallet or clothes it maybe no big problem to park several blocks away, but when you are headed to the short nort to say buy a painting. There is nothing cool about walking a mile with expensive art. On gallery hop night it is damn near impossible to buy art for this very reason.
As far as food the North Market is great between noon and 7pm unfortunately I work days and only eat one meal in that time frame. So sure if they had different hours it would be a great food spot that wasn't from a bar.
