Some good grub in that Ohio Pavillion too, that's the first place we head to now.

Billboards are meant to get people to the event. Fair food is a pretty good hook for the State Fair.
Ohio bacon? Ohio made ice cream? Ohio made baked goods? Ohio made bratwursts? Ohio made bacon wrapped things? Ohio sweet corn with Ohio butter? Ohio maple syrup? I think Ohio makes a ton of delicious products that would get folks to the fair.
I'm not leaning any which way about the sign, I just see a missed opportunity for our farmers and their goods. After the storms and drought, the farmers are struggling hard down here in southeast Ohio. Corn dogs from a box shipped frozen from a factory seems a lot less appetizing that a buttery ear of sweet corn. I always though the fair was to celebrate our state agriculture?
Just my two...
When I think fair I think corn dog.
Fair enough.
I think butter cow.
Well, and if one of the purposes of advertisement is to get the public talking about a particular thing... win?

Not if we were all planning on going to the fair anyway. ;)
I for one, can't wait to eat something deep fried there, fully acknowledging that it's bad for me. ;)
Just to clear up what seems to be a misconception about our great Ohio State Fair. While the processed and junk food vendors abound for the paying masses, the Ohio Food Pavillion feature all foods grown or raised here and featured with daily cooking demonstrations from local and statewide chefs. It's housed in what was once the ODOT transportation building and a great place to grab a seat and rest the feet while scoring some great eats in air conditioning on those muggy August days.
If you haven't guessed from now, I love the state fair and some of the changes I have seen over the year visits. While it's always easy to disparage many of the aspects of this advertising campaign I hope people can find the fun in this exposition of all things that make up Ohio agriculture.
Lighten up peeps, don't take signs so seriously. If you come to the fair looking for the carnivale it's there but, overall this is a great yearly celebration of one of Ohio's biggest businesses and our agricultural heritage.
Two words: Boston. Kansas.
Sometimes people clearly do not thinking about something before giving them a go. That said I do not think the fair billboard is nearly as bad as this
We had a Dirty Frank's cook involved in a hit & run that put him in the ICU over the weekend when he was walking home from work, it happened not far from 66 Parsons. This marketing campaign depresses me. : (
Looking forward to the Velvet Ice Cream tent at the fair!
So, along with all the billboards, I noticed while driving up High St this weekend that the banners on the light poles also have this message, along with a photo of a corn dog.
NBC4 story about food and stuff
This story mentions:
Organizers also say many stands will fry food in oil that has 20 percent less saturated fat than regular soybean oil.
So, if not good for you, perhaps 20% less bad for you?
Yeah, I've noticed the lightpole banners up around Downtown as well. Nullifying my original argument. ;)
Food For Thought?

This billboard is at the corner of Second Ave. and Cleveland Ave. I drive by this intersection a few times a week while on the way to meetings as well as to add revenue to St. James Tavern. Looking at this billboard, my first thought was – hmm – not very good advertising. Then I started to think, wait a minute, maybe this is graffiti / vandalism / social commentary (i.e., the cockroaches? ). Then, when I stopped to get out of my car to snap a photo, I noticed this written among the bugs “Gov. Kasich says”. Hmm maybe it is social commentary. It definitely is intriguing.
