Pepsi day this year for the last day of the fair and it has to be a specially marked bottle/can. $3 admission
I'll be there August 6th...will someone please post if they see Deep Fried Kool-Aid, Deep Fried Butter or something super funky?
I want to make every bite count!
Just found out that there is deep-fried kool-aid, a donut burger and many other great things. Even an Ohio State Fair app with food menus. I am going to be so happy!
Stop by the Ohio Farm Bureau booth in the Nationwide Donahey Ag & Hort building and test your trivia knowledge! We'll be asking questions about Ohio food and gardening. Prizes are given away daily from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Hope to see you there!
I like the 'Ohio Sunday'
Pulled pork, mashed potatoes, gravy and a cherry on top
In a parfait cup
My son and I went last night to eat as much fair food as possible. We searched for the deep-fried kool aid, but couldn't find it. I asked one of the guys working a deep-fried candybar/pb&j/buckeye/etc. booth about it and he said it's just funnel cake batter with a little kool aid flavoring mixed in.
Our tally for the night for 2 people was:
- 2 corndogs
- deep fried pickles
- deep fried oreos
- deep fried s'mores (definitely the best of the bunch)
- giant sweet iced tea
- giant icee
We were miserable by the end, but it made for a pretty fun night.

I was thinking about the county fair in my home town in Indiana, and every year the most popular game was the "mouse game". It's like roulette, but with a live mouse that runs into a numbered hole on a spinning wheel. If your quarter is on that number, you win a prize. I've asked people around here if they've ever heard of it, and I've never met anyone who knows about it. Anyone on CU heard of it? Just curious.
BTW - as an adult, I now realize that it's pretty cruel to repeatedly spin a mouse around in a box, let it loose under bright lights and heavy crowd noise, and force it to run around (dizzy) until it finds a hole to hide in. But as a kid I thought it was a great game.
I worked at the fair today, and OMG was it hot! Best part of the day was watching the people showing up for the Kesha concert. Took the usual fair fashion fails to a whole new level.

Oooohhhh, I want pictures.
1. I'm lousy at taking pics.
2. A middle aged dude taking pics of a bunch of under dressed 14 year olds, might have brought some Chris Hanson type attention to me.
Trust me though, it was pretty entertaining. Especially the ones who were obviously in heels for the first time and wobbling around like drunken sailors in the 100 degree heat. Oh, and special shout out for the woman in the ripped latex pants that were so tight she was moving like an especially ripe zombie.
Edit: Oh, and somebody stop by the Mattress Firm tent tomorrow and buy a freakin mattress from me! If I spend another 14 hour day in that heat without selling anything, I may lose it and start eating Krispy Kreme burgers. ;)
One of my friends was at the concert and described the scene as a "hot mess".

Do a lot of people go to the fair looking for mattresses? ;)
They're not deep-fried are they?
