Ohio Roller Girls Fifth Season to Begin March 27

OHRG is getting ready to kick off our fifth season. It's hard for
me to believe it's been that long since roller derby hit Columbus (or that I've been knocking people down on roller skates for 5 years and my knees are still ok! :) )

Our first home game is in just over 2 weeks as we face off in a double-header v. the Naptown Roller Girls from Indianapolis on March 27. Last year both teams beat Naptown in very close games on their turf. This is the first of two times will face off against them this season, once in each city.

After that, our home games are a double header on May 15 v. Derby City (Louisville and Rubber City (Akron), then single-headers: July 24 v. Fox City Foxz (Appleton WI), Aug 7 v. Grand Raggidy Roller Girls (Grand Rapids, MI), Sep 11 (v. TBD) and Oct 9 (v. Philly Independence Dolls).

All games are held at Central Ohio Roller Hockey, 941 Burrell Ave in Grandview.

Also, we hold one of our first fundraisers of the year next Monday night at Five Guys Burgers and Fries in Grandview. All you have to do is take in the flyer on our website when you order, and OHRG will get a percentage of the night's proceeds.

Hope to see a CU presence at our events this year!

After two hard losses on the road to Nashville and Naptown (Indianapolis), we're back at home on May 15. Gang Green (B Team) will take on the Rubber City Rollergirls out of Akron, and the Ohio Roller Girls A Team will face off against the Derby City Rollergirls out of Louisville, KY. One of our own returns in that game, as Cardinal Sin is now the captain of DCRG.

Gang Green will be taking on The Fox City Foxz from Appleton, WI this Saturday July 24. After both teams took home a win last weekend against Killamazoo Derby Darlins from Kalamazoo, MI, we look forward to having a repeat this Saturday!

Doors are at 4:30, bout is at 5:00pm

After party is at Marshall's in Grandview

With in walking distance from the bout - awesome!

Super fun, but hot! Had to be a good 120 degrees in there today. They still had a sold out crowd, and from what I saw, everyone was having a great time. I'd recommend this to anyone.

A super big thank you to everyone who came out for the game yesterday and saw the close 95-90 matchup between Gang Green and the Foxz Cityz Foxz Scream Puffz from Wisconsin. I was sweating like crazy just sitting down and working the scoreboard -- can't imagine what it felt like on the sidelines or the track. You are troopers!

One more chance to catch our "A" team in action here in Columbus this season -- this Saturday, 8/7, v. the Grand Raggidy Roller Girls of Grand Rapids, MI.

This is a BIG game for us. We've met G-Rag on the track five times previously, and never won, though we've come increasingly close. We've never met them at home before, and right now, we're ranked very closely in our region. They are currently ranked 11th and OHRG is 13th -- we're looking at this game as a way to prove it should have been the other way around. :)

I'd love to go back if it weren't so darn hot in that place. Went with DavidF last week and we were soaked, head to toe, in sweat.
It seemed like they may have had enough fans they just weren't positioned right. Is there anyway those large fan hanging from the walls could be lowered and aimed @ the crowd?

Unfortunately, those are all permanent, and the ones that weren't on are non-functional. I'm crossing my fingers for a cooler day. It can be quite pleasant in there -- when it's not the hottest day of the year like last time.

I am glad to see it will only be a high of 82 degrees on Saturday - that should make this game a lot cooler then last time :)
