Imagine the image of a US president getting on a regular basis sweaty and dirty in a vegetable garden. Is that a better image than him playing golf ? Would it be good symbolism, tapping into the concept of victory gardens that may still exist in the national psyche?
I am thinking of victory over complacency when it comes to hunger, malnutrition, alienation, the eutrophication of our waterways, the inner city 'food deserts,'...

I don't have any problem with him playing golf. Of course, I'm an avid golfer myself so I think it helps the game.

I mean, couldn't you say this about a lot of things?
Wouldn't it be amazing if he spent all of his time at a homeless shelter instead of taking his wife on dates. Wouldn't it be super if he was talking with inner city gangbangers about stopping the violence instead of vacationing in Hawaii. Imagine if he spent time teaching children how to read instead of playing basketball.
The man needs some R and R. He can't be expected to push an agenda 24/7/365.

Not really knocking our first lady's support of gardening. As an avid gardener, I love that. However, I got a grin when I saw this picture. Looks like a photo op - not gardening. Those clothes, no gloves, no dirt showing on an all black outfit. Hmph.... ;)

According to most news reports, the White House garden has produced over 1,00 pounds of food, and their beehive produced over 100 lbs of honey.
Nice photo op or not, the First Lady has made eating healthily and locally one of her platforms, even going so far as to visit a local farmer's market while in D.C.
