We've been going through some of our old HD archives at 10TV and found some great video of New York City in 1999. Feels like something a lot of people here on CU would find interesting.

It has a rare look at the World Trade Center in HD, plus Times Square, the Statue of Liberty, and more.

We've got some great Columbus and OSU stuff in HD from 98-99 too. I'll try to put it together when I have a moment. Definitely a different world... pre-social media and mobile revolution. Plus, late 90s fashion is kind of interesting.

Yea, HD didn't really get embraced until the early part of the 2000s.

I believe WRAL in Raleigh was the first station to have HD stuff... in like '96.
10TV wasn't too long after that. They were definitely one of the first and shot a lot of stuff back then.

Got a few other things on the priority chain, I did the NYC one in spare time, but will do it in the near future.

It is pretty cool stuff. The building of "The Cap", building of 670, shots of the old COSI, old companies, and all of it in HD.

That's beautiful. I could watch stuff like that for hours.

I really can't wait to see the Columbus stuff.

This is a little off topic, but has there ever been much talk about creating an online video archive for 10TV (and/or any of the local stations)? There are a few clips scattered around the internet, but as someone interested in (and, in a way, writing about) local history, it would be fascinating to be able to call up news reports and just video like this of Columbus in the past.

The music is from one of our production libraries called 'The Scene' but yea, I can hear the SimCity sound in it.

That's a great idea that's actually been talked about many times over the years. I think the more people watch these things on 10TV.com or YouTube, the closer to reality something like that could happen.

I was with Ozone Studios in 1999 (although when this video was shot I was still in college) and I remember that we bought an HD Cam the following year, in 2000. I think it was just us and 10TV that had one at the time, in Columbus.

Cool stuff. Amazing how different Times Square looks. Definitely post the Columbus stuff. Would be really neat to see.
