p.s. I think you named a couple great directors/producers, named a couple bad directors/producers, and named a couple ridiculous overrated ones.
It was the slam at the end for some guys who have put out great cinema that got my goat.
I see the Orson Welles thing all the time, but the guy made one good movie and then proceeded to do a bunch of crap till he died. To then condemn the guy who made Schindler's List and at least 3-4 other amazing movies because he also made crap seems kind of lame to me.

I'm too lazy to check through all of these posts to see if anyone brought up Darren Aronofsky's Pi, but, for some reason, this makes me think that we've already been through all of this. Didn't someone make katieb watch Requiem for a Dream once upon a time?
Oh, and all of the Troma Team classics:
Talk about ahead of their time... wow.

I love Troma. Schindler's List is awful, but I like Jaws OK. 8)
I didn't name any producers, really just directors.
If Citizen Kane is Orson Welles to you, I'm just sorry.
Everything else named here is Miramax fodder for white people who like "art movies". But don't like art.
If you wanna get serious, get serious. Otherwise, stick to shit you can see at Drexel Gateway :(
And if your idea of great actor is Kevin Spacey, we have little to discuss :roll: :P Pay it Forward, anyone?!

Blue - Krzysztof Kieslowski - I LOVE Kieslowski, and for personal reasons White was way more rewarding for me - but Blue is a freaking masterpiece.
Miranda - Tinto Brass - Dude LOVED women's asses probably more than life itself, and it translates into every one of his films.
Bottle Rocket - Wes Anderson - get back to the basic understanding of smooth and rough
Dark City - Alex Proyas - This film has more uncovered layers than a bum in February.
Betty Blue - Jean-Jacques Beineix - I never thought this movie would end the first time I watched it, but the more I thought about it the more I liked it - so I watched it again and it is fantastic.
Veronika Voss - Rainer Werner Fassbinder - The BRD Trilogy was not about homosexuals... it was about women in post-war Germany, not all of his stuff is like you say.
Cecil B. Demented - John Waters - film geeks and drug addicts, can't beat it.
Crash - David Cronenberg - I still feel really dirty thinking about this film
The Last Minute - Steven Norrington - FN excellent headstomp of a flick
Death to Smoochy - Danny Devito - "Oww! My balls - they're on fire!"

Ditto on Kieslowski! He's my favorite. Tells interesting and relatively simple stories that typically have very profound things to tell us about ourselves and the world anyway. Have you seen his Decalogue? Great as well.

You must see Touch of Evil as soon as possible. It's brilliant. Totally great piece of noir.

Really? Well, I was a teen when I saw it, so maybe the girl's hairy armpits was something of realism for me at time... I thought it missed quite a lot of the feel of the book, but it did the story and imagery well... the older one has the feel somewhat, but kinda cool just 'cause its odd.

I actually saw it in the theater in 1984...and was horrified at how bad it was and slept through some and left early.
I tried to rewatch it as an adult and found that my teenage instincts were dead on the money.
