Central Ohio H.S. Sports have gotten a lot of exposure this year on ESPN- from the Herbstreit Classic, in which 6 of the 8 teams were from the OCC (UA, Pick Central, Hill. Davidson, Dublin Coffman, Westerville South, and Olentangy Liberty) to Northland being Nationally Ranked. Central Ohio high school sports are underrated on a state standpoint, as opposed to heavyhitters Cincinnati and Cleveland with their St. X's, St. Ignatiuses, St. Ed's, Glenvilles, etc.
Columbus area sports are definitely on the upswing. Hilliard Davidson shocked Clevelnad Glenville in the Div I football championship. Big Walnut, DeSales, Eastmoor, Brookhaven and Watterson have all been to the final in recent years.
Remarkably, area teams swept all 3 Division championships in Boys Soccer last fall - Gahanna Lincoln, DeSales and Worthington Christian. I have to wonder how much having the Crew and their youth programs have helped.
Central Ohio is also traditionally strong in golf, tennis, field hockey, swimming and diving. Definitely good to see improvements in football and basketball competitiveness, though.
