What's going on at the northest corner of Vine and Neil across from the Flats on Vine Apartment project? Crews from Savko are removing the brick retaining wall. Isn't this the site of the proposed Giant Eagle? Is this project alive or is this related to the Flats on Vine?

Haven't heard anything. I imagine NRI would have announced something before breaking ground. My guess is that they're either using the site for construction equipment storage for the Flats on Vine or they're just altering the site to make it more attractive to tenants who will be eventually moving into the Flats on Vine.

NRI doesn't own the land at the NE corner of Vine and Neil. It is owned by "HP land" which I believe is the old Hamilton Parker which used to own all of this, including the Brothers/Gaswerks/LodgeBar/Typhoon buildings and all of those parking lots.
Very strange that those walls are coming down, as the GE project was abandoned, and nothing else has been announced.Posted 1 year ago # -
Just talked to someone at the City - the walls are being removed to create right turn lanes on both Vine and Neil as part of the traffic requirements for the Flats on Vine project.

bummer. I liked those walls.

The added lanes will make the intersection more difficult for pedestrians to cross.

Oh yeah... I do recall hearing about the road widening. Yuck. Who wants to live in front of a 8-lane road?

Beginning Tuesday (3/16), there will be various lane restrictions at the intersection of Neil Avenue and Vine Street for wall demolition. Restrictions will be in place 24 hours a day on Vine Street and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily on Neil Avenue. Two-way traffic will be maintained. These restrictions will be in place until late April, weather permitting. (City of Columbus)

??? That intersection is already too large and a pain on pedestrians. It seems for every positive walkability street improvement the City does, it does another 10 that are contrary to walkability.
