I've brought this up in other threads and would like to see what other people thought of this as a viable business idea:
Do you think a North Face store would do well in Short North?
I think it would do great, but would like some other opinions.

The other location I could also see working is one of the new retail spots downtown in the renovated Lazarus building.
rather see an REI store...
I think it would work well on Campus. I see giant herds of those kiddos in North Face coats everywhere.
I think a store that sold giant North Face jackets and really small skirts would do really well on Park St.
I would also rather see an REI store or if we want to keep it independent Clintonville Outfitters. I actually think Clintonville Outfitters would do really nicely in the Norka space if they are ready to expand.

Or take it a step further and have Uggs, Forever 21, and North Face form a joint venture in the South Campus Gateway. That way, 90% of OSU's female student population can get their clothing staples at a one-stop shop. /sarcasm
A Northface Store in the Short North makes exactly as much sense as a Starter Jacket Store would have in 1994.
You are totally right (re: Moz's post). I was surprised (not really I guess) at the Phoenix show last week at how many girls I saw put together REALLY REALLY REALLY cute outfits...suuuuuper cute skirts, dresses, tights, boots, heels...alllll kinds of cute combos...and then cover it all with a cat hair covered north face fleece. Don't get me wrong, they have their place, but they DON'T go with everything. Shame to crap up a cute outfit they obviously put some thought into by throwing that on.
And you can only wear Uggs if it's 20 degrees and your skirt is short enough for me to do a cursory gyno exam from across High Street. I think it says so right on the shoe box.

Ha! Agreed. I will say though, I have a North Face coat and a zip-up and they are my two favorite pieces of clothing in the winter. They do an excellent job at keeping the wind out.

Haha. I know they're supposed to be super warm. When I moved to the Midwest I toyed with the idea of getting one, but I couldn't get rid of the L.A. in me. I can deal with being chilly as long as my coat is well tailored.
And like osulew said...not covered in cat hair!

I can only take the cold to a point. I was in Chicago last week and it was great to be able to stop in the North Face store to buy a hat, then keep on walking. Without it I was so cold I prob. would have gone home. Also, that hat was freakin amazing. My head was toasty.

these?
That's not the one I was thinking of ... they always pan to players on the sideline that have a coat that fades one color into another.
oh, yeah, i've seen those. but those jackets have to be big to fit over shoulder pads...i doubt too many fans buy those giant coats.

look at headwear ... there are coats that look like that too.
North Face in the Short North makes no sense, South Campus Gateway would be a location closer to their niche. Truthfully it would not work any where around though, as the campus kids who wear those jackets usually get them for X-mas from their parents and wear them for years.
Not very many campus kids have money to drop on $150-250 jackets.. let alone multiple $150-250 jackets. The kids who do have money rather shop at stores like Milk Bar, order stuff off the internet, or travel to New York to shop...
@Walker, I think it would be fine. We already have the Grandview Mercantile. What a better way to say we have the coolest stores in Columbus than to have a few named after our other neighborhood?
@Moz, totally agree. My dad taught me young that it is more important to be dressed well than comfortable.
I also dont think North Face is as trendy as Starter coats. I wouldn't mind seeing a Patagonia store either ... but I wonder if it would do as well (same with REI) just because it doesn't have as much name recognition with the general public.
