We're very interested in NBp as a site for our wedding/reception. I've heard horror stories about reserving the space. Does anyone have any experience with this? Advice?

We had our wedding there last October. It was AMAZING. Guests loved the space (they asked who I knew in order to get it - no one.) The staff were easy to work with, and at least then, it was affordable - I believe $1800 for 12 hours. We were a DIY wedding, though - so we and our families did the set up and tear down ourselves, which worked for us because we had a very specific vision. The facility's staff aren't allowed to help on that stuff. We were able to work with one of four caterers, and had to hire a bartender from an approved vendor, but we were able to bring our own drinks - which saved a TON of money. It was a really nice day, so we did the ceremony outside and reception inside, with the doors open. Great views of downtown, lots of light, it was a perfect place for us. One thing to consider: it doesn't hold a huge wedding. We fit about 90 are were pretty compact. We did two rows of banquet tables down the whole length of the room, with the head table up front. We removed the head table after dinner to make the dance floor.
We called to book the space about 8 months before, and had to be flexible on our date. It rents out fast.
PM me if you have any other questions.

My fiance and I camped out overnight there a year from the date we planned on getting married. I discovered we'd need to do so, after attempting to book several dates in August that were already taken by the time we tried to sign up. Finally, we decided to camp out overnight; we arrived at 3 a.m. (the place opened at 7 a.m.), which seemed a little crazy, until another person (who wanted the same date and time) arrived at 4 a.m., ready to get in line for the site. When we related our story to the rec and parks office folks the next day, they told us that a couple the previous weekend (Labor Day), camped out from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. to secure the location. So, yeah, it's a little crazy.
Anyway, as joev said, you have to choose a bartender from a list of approved providers.
You can get whichever caterer you choose, however. And while the building has a capacity of about 90 people, you can place a tent outside to expand the space to a capacity of about 175 folks.
That about exhausts my knowledge of the site; I'm getting married at the beginning of September, so I will have more to report then.

Fyi ... you no longer benefit from camping out at Parks and Rec to get North Bank. They will do a drawing for whoever is there when they open. The soonest you can get it is a year out from your date, so be there that morning.

This is true.
Anyway, the experience at NBP was great; the city employees were super-helpful, offering ideas about how the space could best be laid-out, shooing away folks who came off the street and tried to steal the toiletries we'd left for our guests in the bathrooms, and being awesome in just about every respect.
We had a pretty healthy split of out-of-towners and Columbusers at the wedding, and people from both groups remarked on the loveliness of the site. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for an urban spot with a lovely view of the outdoors.

wow thats NUTS!
I looked into this spot
but it wasn't big enough for our wedding size
it would be a very cool to get married at!
We ended up at the conservatory.

Oh, wow! I've heard the conservatory is super-cool, too. I love that place.

I'm in the planning phase for my wedding also.. this info is great. I think we might be going with the Capital Club though.

Good luck! Eloping sounded better and better as the day approached, but now that it's all over, I'm really glad we had a wedding with friends and family there to celebrate.
Slightly off-topic, but since we're talking wedding stuff, I cannot recommend Kim Rottmayer of Picture the Love enough, if you're in the hunt for a wedding photog. She's creative, fun, and has really, really reasonable prices. She's also an awesome band photographer, as evidenced here.

I've got a story... Before sharing though, thanks for the post on the photographer. Definitely going to call her.
I'm having my reception at NB next year. Heard you had to show up at the parks office no more than 1 year to the day in advance. They open at 8am and I strolled in at 8:30 told them I wanted to book it and they laughed. Supposedly there were 4 other people there at 8am sharp and they were done and gone before I arrived.
So, we pushed things back a week and I was there on time "prepared" and lucky enough to get the draw. There were 20 people there that day also in the drawing. They might as well auction the place off in the future.

Ah, I had a very similar experience, except I tried to book by phone.
Given the demand, I wonder if the Scioto Mile project will include any space for wedding-type rentals. It seems like they could make a killing on that.

We are having our wedding there in August; the ceremony will be outdoors, and the reception in the pavilion.
Has anyone had a wedding there and used the "tent" option outside the pavilion? Do you have pictures?
Can anyone recommend a decorator for the space, or any suggestions on how to handle decorating such an unusual space like that?
Also, it seems incerdibly difficult to hold a rehearsal at the space the evening before because its completely booked--did anyone else face this dilemma, and how did you handle it? Any help or suggestions would be so great!
Thanks!

I would hang a bunch of these tissue papers pompoms from the ceiling in your wedding colors. Or just in shades of one color if you don't have colors. They are super easy to make and cheap.

We did paper lanterns - simple, and looked great.
For the rehearsal, we called the rental office to see what times were free the day before. We had our ceremony outside, so we didn't require access to the inside. You may have to be flexible with your rehearsal time so you don't interrupt another event.

I love those Tissue globes Anne! I just saw those on Martha Stewart Weddings. Andy and I are starting to plan to make our entire wedding as wasteless as possible.
Does anyone know if the Drawing process still applies to booking the North Bank Park?

congratulations on getting married! :)

Thanks! We selected the engagement ring it's now just trying to find the best Price on a diamond, not trying to go all out perfect C's but still decent.
I started a really random Blog, I like to think of it as my rabbling ideas and electronic planner. I figure since I blog so much anyways it's easier for me to reference back to another blog.Posted 1 year ago # -
Also Question for People who already did the North Bank Park. It says on the website "All fees must be paid in advance in order for a reservation to be made." So did you just take a blank check with you on the day you went to try and get a reservation?

We chose the North Bank Park for our wedding ceremony and reception and we could not have made a better decision. The staff was extremely professional and accommodating. The North Bank aloud us to be creative in our own way- the venue is basically a blank canvas with beautiful architecture and an amazing view of the downtown Columbus skyline. We were able to bring our own food and alcohol which made it affordable. Our wedding was in early May so we took the chance of it possibly raining- well it did... not only rainy but freezing to boot! we did not really have a plan B and we figured oh well.. we will "wing it"..lol. and we did. to view our wedding photos at the North Bank park visit www.NorthBankPark.com -Enjoy:)
