Alright I'll admit it:
I'm not half as motivated as most of you to venture out to do cool-hip-fun things in Columbus. Truth is, most nights I have off, I just got-with-the-majority and hand out at someone's house or something like that.
I live in Grandview. I stay close to home when "going out"
Lately:
Grandview Cafe's service has sucked so bad the last 3x we've been there that we've boycotted it (which sucks because the food and proximity are awesome)
Byrne's is always good for a greasy pizza and beer, and is also within walking distance, but is usually a sloppy, messy night.
This leaves little options for places to walk to in the freezing Ohio cold.
However:
Thirsty Ear, as cool as it's been hyped up to be for good music and whatnot, has never made it onto our go-to list until recently...mostly because they almost ALWAYS have a cover charge (due to the cool music playing inside)
But: they do NOT have cover charges on Sundays or Tuesdays.
We've been there twice so far (recently):
Once on a Sunday which has been Open Mic Acoustic Night. It was awesome. Not only did we see 4-5 great acoustic musicians, but I dined on a Pizza Grinder and the boyfriend on a burger. Both were delicious.
Tonight we headed over there for (NO COVER) Matt Monta and some good food within walking distance of our place.
It. Was. Awesome. It was the kind of awesome where you're like, "Oh, well we closed out because we already had 3 really good beers, and food, and we really shouldn't buy anymore stuff-- but this guy's so good...no we really have to go..." kind of thing. I seriously didn't want to leave.
Tonight we had their pizza. Why doesn't anyone mention how awesome their pizza is? Also- the talent they have? Is great. The last two times I've been there I've looked around and debated on whether or not to share how cool it is on this forum, because I don't want it to get too crowded...however, the place was pretty much empty both times we went in.
So people: frequent Thirsty Ear Tavern on third when they don't have huge acts appearing. Come on the nights where there's no cover. Chances are (in my experience) you'll leave wanting to buy a local guy's CD, and your belly will be full with awesome beer (what a selection?!) and delicious food.
TRY THE NUGGETS. ANYTHING WRAPPED IN BACON IS AMAZING.
And if you see a redhead in a strange winter hat, it's probably me.
oh p.s. can someone explain to me how to post a picture onto my profile? Jeesh it's complicated on here.
