C-Span caller: "I heard American Samoa, Guam, and the Virgin Island. What are those referring to?" When told that those are U.S. territories, she asks, "are those part of states?" C-Span anchor dude cuts her off.

I would take you to task for starting a thread simply to make fun of someone, but the politician in question lost to new RNC Chairman-Elect Reince Priebus, so the point is moot.
For the record, I'm not a Republican, just a little grumpy with all of the partisanship I've been reading lately.

I know literally nothing about Reince Priebus, but judging by his name alone, I imagine he dresses like Andy Bernard.

C-Span anchor dude cuts her off. Those are unincorporated territories. They don't get to vote for president and they have non-voting members in the US House of Representatives. They do not have any representation in the US Senate. I know that the US Virgin Islands has had home rule for several decades; they elect their local government. In the past, the president appointed the governor.
I learned that the hard way...I lived on St. Thomas for four years.

Ah. I apologize. I thought you were making fun of one of the candidates. Again, I apologize for being crabby and targeting your comment.

Hey Cat, we all get crabby at times. Goes with being human. The better humans are the ones who feel bad about it later.

I for one couldn't make any connection between the thread title and the first post at all - good that someone made a stab!

I was reading a Rolling Stone article by Matt Taibbi called "The Crying Shame of John Boehner" and this line had me laughing out loud: "Boehner...looked like a girl scout watching a puppy get pushed through a meat grinder- as he flogged his 'I've been chasing the American dream my whole life' act."

Thanks so much! I just kind of assumed that everyone would hop right on with discussion of the process can you BELIEVE she used to work for pfizer?!" and was waiting for someone ELSE to bring it up or that of COURSE, we all want to dissect territories, protectorates, etc!
(that I'm the only one watching C-SPAN, never even crossed my mind)

I watch C-SPAN on occasion. My mother watches it almost religiously when there's something going on in Congress.

Why's that? You like this guy? Signs of republican infighting? Dislike Boehner?
