From Ives’ classic The Unanswered Question to an early Stockhausen icon of Modernismâ€â€Kreuzspiel, for Three Percussionists, Oboe, Bass Clarinet, and Pianoâ€â€the New Music Collective breaks out of the traditional concert mold and into an evening of engaging, entertaining, and enlightening contemporary music.
The complete Cardew Great Learning cycle continues with Paragraph 4, for organ, sonorous objects, serrated instruments, and 50-voice choir as a pre-concert event beginning at 7:35 p.m. Lang, Berio, Chihara, Obregón, Riley, and Nelson round out the program.
The concert includes electroacoustic music, large-choral works, virtuoso works for solo instrument,
ritual music, and an old war-horse of contemporary music, Terry Riley’s In C. The concert begins with a pre-concert event, Paragraph 4 of Cardew’s The Great Learning, which runs from 7:35 to 8:05 p.m.
The event is free and open to the public.
