So my 26 year old furnace might be on its last leg. My question is, is it worth getting this one fixed or should I just get a new one. If I do go with a new one, what are my best options? Seems hard to find good info on buying a furnace.

Among the major brands (Carrier, Rheem/Ruud, Trane/American Standard, Lennox) reliability is all about the same. The most important thing is to have a competent installer put it in. Check Angie's List and other sources for reviews.
As far as equipment goes, you'll have to see if it's feasible to install a >90% efficient gas furnace in your dwelling. These units require different venting than the lower efficiency models because the outflow is so cool you'll get condensation in a tall chimney stack. Regardless, I'd recommend getting a variable speed blower, as this will significantly help improve your comfort level and the motors are much more efficient.
Consider buying a new matched A/C unit as well if you can (or want to). If you do, make sure to get R-410a refrigerant, as the old R-22 is being phased out and those units are going to be more difficult/costly to service down the road.
