Is shadowbox moving the the Brewery Dist still?
...or was that scrapped...?Posted 1 year ago # -
As someone who is in the 22-25 yr old range, its HARD in Cbus to find a place that has it "all". Im tired of the loungey/I cant hear myself think/have to go outside to change my mind/$15 drinks place. I like GOOD martinis and simple food that isnt all fried, but Im faced with chosing between spending $100 for the night as a couple OR sitting in a dive with terrible music and terrible food, but with $2 wells.
With all that said, I love Gay Street and what is down there now, but I'd love to have a low music, comfy seats, great happy hour, and decent food place down there. I hate that all the places with the cheapest drinks are loud and sketchy!

I hope it goes well.
Anything upscale in Columbus can be tough because the market to support it is so thin.
Upscale has it's place here, but upscale places don't tend to be repeat destinations in Columbus because your money just goes further at fairly comparable bars and restaurants.
For example, I still can't believe you can get a Johnnie Walker Black on the rocks at a place like the Rossi for $4.50. That blows my mind.
We were at Little Palace last Thursday night and I couldn't believe how far my money went there.
As a result, I'm easily there or places like it a few nights during the week. In contrast, I may hit an "upscale place" once or twice a month at the most. Especially if I feel like it's work (dressing up, being on your game) to visit those upscale places.

I was there last night. They're still trying to move. I know that they've been downtown before, but they seem to do pretty well at Easton. I hope that moving is the right thing for them.

This isn't my typical hangout and it won't be ... but including tip, four drinks (two martinis, a beer and a double rum & diet) were $30! Service sucked and the drinks weren't so hot either.

On a complete side note, does anyone else have that awful Prince song trapped in their noggins whenever they read this thread?

This reminds me, whatever happened to Bolé Ultra Lounge next to Hi-Beck Tavern? I'd like to see a bar go in, but just because it's Downtown doesn't mean it has to upscale/loungy. The best bars Downtown aren't.

REALLY????!!!! I must have never had the experience others had at Barrister. To Mr Waitress & I, it was just a place where it seemed more important to have style behind the bar than to actually place a drink in the hands of the guest. We went there on a few occasions and always got so exasperated because we could never get a drink. There were just a bunch of stupid girls in little black dresses behind the bar. No bartenders. Maddening. And it's not just an old fat lady bitching about hot bartenders. Husband agreed, he would happily trade the eye candy for a bartender. Eye candy is easy to find, but a great bartender is beyond her weight in rubies. or whatever the bible quote is.

As a beer drinker, that never bothered me...the kickass pool room upstairs, the jazz and open mic nights downstairs were what made Barrister work for me.

I was mostly in my 20's when I went there and was really more interested in the jazz than anything. I drank beer and really didn't give a rat's ass who served it to me. So yeah, I miss it.

A jazz bar/club/lounge concept would be awesome for gay street I think. I love to hear good jazz with a city backdrop, and what is a better place than that! I will keep hoping... *sigh*

Are there any gay bars on Gay St? It might be a good idea to open up a gay bar as long as that area is starting to see a pick-up in nightlife. I am not gay, but I think it might be a good idea as a marketing tool for Columbus to get tourist money. In NYC I know I have seen a drag bar (I found out by accidentally walking in and wondering why the women were so large - I figured out rather quickly).
