NBC 4 keeps promoting an "interactive" redesign of their 5:30 newscast, including an emphasis on social media, user-generated content and other non-old-school applications.
The first couple minutes are like "Facebook for Dummies" and I'm not sure how they'll bridge the gap between savvy users who think Cabot Rea isn't the face of interactive media applications and old ladies who think the Internet is a tool of the devil (or if they'll even try to bridge it, for that matter).
NBC 4 has the right idea by trying to work this stuff into their presentation, but the technology needs to get to the point where it can be mentioned in passing, without having to carefully explain or contextualize what "Twittering" is, or even something as simple as an online poll (I'm talking about YOU, Cabot).
Let's hope the training wheels come off quickly or else they'll end up aiming for the middle and missing both halves entirely.
