Neighbors with loud boom boom music

I'm just soliciting advice. I'm currently living in one side of my duplex, which happens to be in the not greatest part of town. However, we love our house, neighbors (on one side), and the hood is quiet....or it was.

Now the problem. Recently the house next door was bought by this company that rents homes to poor people at a great price. So in move these folks who play the most God awful loud boom boom music that rattles our windows and my nerves.

What is the most effective course of action here? Does anyone have advice besides knocking on their door? That didn't work - they aren't the friendliest or most considerate people to say the least...

How loud do you think you can play the 1812 Overture in retaliation? Maybe borrow some cannon for effect. Otherwise, assuming I know the type, confrontation may lead to hospitalization.

I'm sure there are some noise ordinance issues.

If anything get some God-awful annoying children's music and start blasting it at 6 am.

Sorry I just re-read this more closely. I thought you were renting. It would be hard to do something that would cause them to move out, so you will either have to move or find some way to reason with them. Calling the cops sometimes works, but often they just get pissed and play the music louder, or stop for one night and come back with a vengeance the next day.

Ear plugs?

What a shame that some folks think they're they only people on the planet and that to make life uncomfortable for others is of no concern. I get so fed up with that attitude, I could scream, especially since the ones who are being tortured have no real recourse. Geez.

Pull their electric meter. You might need a pair of snip to take the tamper tag off but you can usually just twist those off with your hands. Do it on a Friday night and they probably won't have power again until Monday. Wear black clothes and have an escape route planned.

This is apparently how my parents handled a similar situation when I was pretty young. College kids rented the house next to us and partied all weekend. My parents got fed up enough that they started aiming the speakers at the house early Sunday morning and just started blasting Barney or Raffi on a loop. Took about a month or so before the problem solved itself.

I'm hoping for a more civilized approach, not to detract from your parents L2W. Although I love the way Motorist thinks, as usual.

I ended up calling the cops. They put a stop to it, for today. From now on I and my tenants will be doing just that, along with sending nasty notes to their landlord threatening legal action.

And if WE ever hit the lotto....We will buy the houses on either side of our neighbor's landlord and put in F word slinging neighbors complete with boom boom noise as their neighbors (yes in Dublin). Revenge would be so sweet.

Well we are all gay here, as well as a girl on the other side of the boom boomers. All we'd need is some drag queens.

Seriously, the police put a stop to it last night and so far today it has been quiet. Knock on wood.

I'm going to find a contractor to help me beef up our privacy fence then add some of that ivy that grows fifteen feet up.

Get some kudzu. In a couple of weeks it'll cover their entire house and muffle anything.
