then the original poster says he has been living here 15 years.

I think that one of the reasons there's so much contention is the fact that a lot of these neighborhoods are either recent divisions, or have fuzzy boundaries because they have no real reason to have hard boundaries. Even within those areas, until a name is well established, the names are in flux.
There's a cultural aspect to neighborhood designation that people on this board sometimes seem to want to avoid discussing openly. I think its kind of funny that every time the Peach District comes up (and the inevitable back-and-forth starts), there's at least one person who is trying to say that it's wrong, period, for people to dislike having a group they are not part of rename the place where they live - and that it's somehow beneath us to even be having an argument about it. But (in my view), this is just reality and it's a little wrong-headed to suggest that it shouldn't be happening. There will always be some who disagree with a change that others are trying to make, and sometimes that means that the change never really takes hold. It doesn't particularly reflect poorly on any party in the discussion, it just IS.
Things become more complicated, I think, because many people on the CU seem to be highly engaged in city/local government and civic activism, where the geographical aspect of neighborhood designation is unusually important. So you can ask one kind of "neighborhood boundaries" question and get a couple different kinds of answer. The question of neighborhoods isn't simple - that's what makes it interesting, I think.

thanks for calling me a hipster even though I'm a nice native who want areas of Columbus to have proper names.
THE END
holy moly, the simmer went to boil in a hurry.
hey nice native, no one called you a hipster. at least i didn't. my reference was a joke at the expense of Washington Beach, which has historically been both revered and poked fun at for being the territory of what is now identified as The Hipster. Who knew that was derogatory slang anyway?
Anyway, WB is across Arcadia, just south of Clintonville, which has also been labeled as a more fancy neighborhood.
So there, has this explanation suitably sucked all of both the vitriol and humor out of this thread?

Baby Farms is indeed awesome...and suprisingly...there's not a lot of kids in the neighborhood. HA!
Well duh, you have to kill babies in order to make baby oil.
I dunno, Baby Farms is kind of growing on me. Sure beats Peach District IMO. At least there's some history to it.

Well, there goes that theory.
Well, without naming the area the Peach District we wouldn't be able to go around peachdistricting. Are the residents of Baby Farms involved in baby farming? Sometimes it's the most obvious answer that is correct.
my observations would indicate that babies are farmed in hilliard, dublin, and lewis center.

LOL. I think you may be right.
The Hilltop used to have the Columbus Baby Camp. Maybe the farm and camp were affiliated.
I found a bit of evidence of a Baby Farms neighborhood in Columbus: http://www.homecolumbusohio.com/subdivisions/baby_farms.html
So does this mean that we should rename it Balding Middle-Aged Farms now?
Glad they included Iuka City on the list...
Best place to party in the summertime. Hands down. Feels like you're hanging out in a villa in Cali.
Yes! Another Peach District thread!
I invite all to our Greatest Show Friday Night. President Brett Zehner should be in attendance. He'll sort it all out for you. http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=315082399618&index=1
I made that Geo-spatial identity map a few years ago if anyone wants to find it, but last time I saw it, I think the file got corrupted and lots of data was missing.
It was fine the last time I checked it out. Hope it's OK. Oh, I updated the TriSouth map to reflect four sub-neighborhoods there: Cambria Addition, Marion Franklin, Greenhill Acres, and Southfield. More places 99% of Columbus residents would never hear about, not that you'd have many reasons to go there unless you lived there much like Stambaugh-Elwood.
