    Hello my dear undergrounders,

One of my family members is considering getting Lasik Surgery at the Lasik Plus at Easton (on top of Martini Park)and we are a little nervous... The doctors/nurses etc were super nice and guided us through the whole process, explained risks etc. But I still want to hear it from people who have actually had the procedure (or know of someone who had it) done at the Easton location. I've looked up reviews online, but most of what I can find are reviews by ppl from other cities.

So, anyone who would be kind enough to share their experience??
    Thanks much :)

    first off,just google lasik ripoff.

you should be a little nervous.

none of the people you spoke to were medical professionals, they were sales people.
just because they had scrubs on,doesn't mean they have any medical experience.
if they do have any medical experience, they got it off of a training video.

i believe the only real medical professionals are the people assisting the surgeon when you actually have the surgery.

my g/f had it done, but it was at the East Main location.

before the surgery,my g'f has problems seeing at a distance.after the surgery, she has the exact opposite problem.

she got the warranty, and has been back several times.

but, others i know have had no problems at all.

if your family member obtains this surgery,i strongly suggest the warranty.

i had lasik about 3 years ago and i love it. it's been worth every penny. my vision was terrible. i couldn't see facial expressions without my glasses, and had a huge astigmatism. now i'm 20/15
i went to lasik plus, and i liked that they do a jillion of these. my brothers boyfriend went to a smaller, more "upscale" place and got a major infection and can't see out of one eye. not that place's fault, maybe, but i'm just saying that more expensive may not be better.
and yeah, get the warranty. it's your eyes.

Can't speak to getting it done at Lasik Plus, because I had my done at Bloomberg Eye Center in Newark, but I can speak to my Lasik experience.

I had mine done in 2004 - went from worse than 20/400 vision (I couldn't even see the big "E" clearly - they had to hold up fingers for me to do an eye test) to 20/15. I bought the warranty, but haven't had to use it. As P. just reminded me, as a matter of fact I haven't had any eye exams at all since then (should go get checked for glaucoma, though) and no degradation of vision, either distance or reading.

Two things about the procedure freaked me out, though - the sound/smell of it (think burning hair smell and sound), and the fact that the evening I had it done it hurt like hell on earth, but the pain was gone by the time I woke up the next day.

Still, would do it again in a heartbeat, as I went from someone who couldn't even crawl out of bed to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night without glasses (I would've bumped into the walls) to someone who has taken her eyesight for granted literally overnight.

Can't speak to the place you're considering, but my opinion - when I was looking for a place to have vision correction - was that if they needed to advertise or gave "discounts", they weren't getting anywhere near my eyes.

My vision correction surgery was done by Dr. Alice Epitropoulos at The Eye Center of Columbus (although when I had my surgery she was located at Grant, but I have had follow up appointments at The Eye Center - Arean District - location).

She was completely involved in the process from start (initial evaluations, measurements) to finish (surgery and post-op). I always saw HER (sometimes an assistant would do a preliminary exam, and then she would enter to double check everything and do her own evaluations). She is kind, professional, and knowledgeable. I wanted LASIK, but she said that the cornea in my left eye was really thin. She could do LASIK, but the results wouldn't be as good as I wanted or would expect. She recommended using PRK on my left eye, because I would get better results in the end. The trade off is that PRK is more painful. I appreciated that she didn't just do the LASIK but wanted me to have the best possible end result - and could recommend and do a procedure other than LASIK that would get me there. I can't speak highly enough of my experience with her.
