Ok, I realize we're a bit landlocked here in Columbus but what's the best, closest proxy to a beach experience? I'm still a bit new to town and might have a hard time making it through summer without a refreshing swim. Alum Creek Reservoir? Buckeye Lake? Heck, good local pools? Thanks!

Thanks!Alum Creek is probably the closest, depending on where you live. I seem to remember Deer Creek State Park having a decent beach, but I haven't been there since I was a kid.

For a beach experience you really have to go to the islands. They're only 2 1/2 hours away.

Not local, but there are several very sweet beach and dune parks starting at Indiana Dunes, and all the way up the west coast of Michigan to the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.
