Colorado accepts invitation to join Pac-10

By PAT GRAHAM AP Sports Writer

DENVER(AP)Ã¢â‚¬â€The Colorado Buffaloes have bolted from the Big 12, accepting an invitation Thursday to become the 11th member of the Pac-10 Conference.

ItÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s the first expansion of the league since it added Arizona and Arizona State in 1978. More teams could follow Colorado from the Big 12 to the Pac-10. Reports say Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State could accept invitations soon.

ColoradoÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s move was first reported by The Sporting News.

Before the Buffaloes jumped ship to another conference, Nebraska looked poised to become the first team to leave the Big 12, possibly exiting for the Big Ten as soon as Friday.

I haven't decided what to make of all this, on top of the USC drama. Pretty nsane last 24 hours for college football and a lot more coming. I want to know who this Deepthroat coach is, lol.

well for the next 2 years it will sort of be the Pac 16, -1.

USC punished with two-year postseason ban

I'd also like to add a Nelson Muntz style "ha-ha" to Seantrel Henderson. Kid should have gone with his instinct.

Actually, the word I've heard is that Missouri was getting the cold shoulder from the Big Ten and that the Big Ten wasn't interested in adding any more than one additional member, i.e., Nebraska.

I'm definitely iffy on this move, honestly. Nebraska is a far-afield extension of the Big Ten's geographic area, particularly without bringing Missouri in. If we were going to add another major state school, I'd have thought Pittsburgh or West Virginia would have been substantially better candidates, especially Pitt. I'd almost rather see the Big Ten *shrink* and lose the incompatible-in-many-ways Northwestern, though other major conferences do successfully mix public and private schools, so on a national scale, Northwestern isn't as much of an outlier as it is within the league.

Rutgers? Blah. I'd rather see Pitt or Notre Dame, or nobody. Rutgers is lame...and it seems weird to stretch a conference from north Jersey to Nebraska. Once again...college football is proving it's all about money while they poop on the fans. This may be great for football, but I wonder how the swimmers and lacrosse players at Nebraska feel about travelling to Penn State.

This is about football, period. The Huskers have great tradition and a program on the rebound.
There's a lot of stuff floating around but I think the Big Ten goes to 14 teams.
They will be forced into snapping up Mizzou when the PAC 10 grabs the Texas teams and Oklahoma next basically decimating the old Big 12.

Then you have 13 Big Ten teams, which is a scheduling nightmare, so you need a 14th to split into 7 team divisions. Rutgers gives you NYC Media Market, which is more bucks and eyeballs for the Big Ten Network.

I'm not saying this is what I WANT to have happen, I'm saying this is what will happen.
(Personally, I'd like to see my Ohio Bobcats in the Big Ten and I'd like West Virginia in there too...)
This is all about big time college football and the tens of millions on the table.

Heh. I have my own misgivings about whether Nebraska is genuinely a program on the rebound, but I admit they've at least been doing OK.

In all seriousness, with that new stadium coming this year, they've actually poised themselves well for this drama.

I'll be bummed if the Big 10 allows their academically distinguished conference to get diminished by the addition of a bunch of Big 12 schools. Not that it matters when there's money on the line.

Nebraska will be good, very good. As long as Pelini is the coach they will be top 3 in the conference formerly known as the big ten.

Pitt and West Virgina would be bad for Ohio State recruiting

UT and A&M are both AAU.

I am surprised UNT is not. At least they can add a top notch jazz program to their resume.

Yeah, less about them (though good grief that would make my life a living hell), mostly the the OK schools there's been rumors might be jumping ship as well if TX and TAMU go. But at this point it's all just that, rumors.
