Any opinions here? I was thinking of getting a Tigertree Facebook going as well. Would it be over-kill? Is it just the same people? Would there be any advantages to having both or one over the other? This probably comes off like your grandparents talking about DVD's but I have never been on facebook.

Facebook is a social networking tool that typically caters more to students.
There is a definite class separation involved however, in that people on facebook tend to be better educated/of a higher class than those on myspace.
I'll look around for the study on that.

almost every student I have run into at OSU has a facebook account and is active on it. Not so much for myspace, so if your looking for that crowd I'd go facebook rout.

I actually read that article the other day, which is what got me thinking about it. I wasn't sure if someone here had linked it though, which could be one of those annoying things where a friend tells you a story you told them... I just haven't heard if any bands/stores use facebook accounts as actively as myspace.

Facebook really isn't as active in the promoting scene as MySpace is. It's definitely the dominant social network for students right now (though it's no longer EXCLUSIVE to students, which is important to note)... but other than party planning and their relatively new classifieds, I don't see anywhere near the same kind of promotion or business presence there.

I think myspace has turned into a huge slutty dump.
Some people dig it. I don't.
I started a Facebook account so I could keep up with my students... and I like it alright.... I still prefer email... but I'm turning into an old man apparently....
My only problem with Facebook is all the stupid applications they keep trying to get me to sign up for.
Let me know if you sign up.... I'll be Tigertree's friend.

Why doesnt someone just spend a little more time with THIS site and develop an application to allow the users to comment on eachothers profiles...
I am sure someone has the time to do this....

From a business standpoint, myspace is much easier for your promotional efforts even if it seems like you might be swimming in white noise there.

I nominate Mr. Daniel Fox to develop that application for me.
Seriously though, there's some new things in the pipeline here. Just depends on how much free time I get. 8)

Josh, you should definitely have a presence on both websites. Facebook recently opened up their platform for developers to build applications that are directly integrated into Facebook. That's why everyone keeps getting application spam requests.
Social Networking sites are sort of like the old days of getting a free web mail account. There will be a shake out and a consolidation of these platforms, but it's hard to say which ones.
The link to the blog article below has some great detail on how to integrate all this social media into one targeted communications platform for your business.
The Future of Communications : A Manifesto for Integrating Social Media into Marketing
These are mostly techniques that are free.

As was inevitable with any Rupert property. :(
I swear, Walker, if you add an ability to put people as "friends" and have "friend counts", I'm going to give CU its first entry here: http://snubster.com/.
That is, unless you add the ability to add "enemies"

I like enemies.. that is funny.
Posted 4 years ago # -
I like that too. Maybe have like-ability scores or something. People who called you an enemy would subtract numbers from your friend count

I know this doesn't really belong here, but I didn't want to start my third post in 20 minutes. Has anyone else seen this clip of Cramer going crazy on Bernanke?

I have been looking at some profile modifications for this type of forum software. Making friends and enemies sounds fun. ;)

Facebook is way better. My friends and I like to tag each other in terrible pictures we find on the interent, a fun game that you can't do on Slutspace. Although I do admit to having a Myspace, I can't say I'm active very often on it.

While it wouldn't be integrated to THAT kind of level, http://www.ning.com/ lets you setup your own social networks, and is most often used to create social networks for smaller, more specific things, like everyone posting to a forum, for example...

Ning looks cool. I've yet to try it. Has anyone tried it out. There is a blog I regularly follow called - Mashable - http://www.mashable.com - that recently added a pretty robust community on their site from what looks to be off the shelf software by a company called - Converdge - http://www.converdge.com
Wordpress has forum/ community software called - http://www.bbpress.org - I've yet to try it out.
